{"id":41276,"date":"2014-08-23T09:30:26","date_gmt":"2014-08-23T09:30:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=41276"},"modified":"2014-08-22T21:57:59","modified_gmt":"2014-08-22T21:57:59","slug":"increased-borla-fees-superficial-lloyd-amoah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=41276","title":{"rendered":"Increased \u2018borla\u2019 fees superficial &#8211; Lloyd Amoah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">A member of the \u2018Clean Ghana Campaign,\u2019 Dr. Lloyd Amoah has said \u201can overly monetary response\u201d by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is not the answer to solving the sanitation problem in Ghana\u2019s capital city, Accra.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije on Friday announced that the assembly has <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/22\/accra-residents-to-pay-ghc1oo-for-refuse-oko-vanderpuije-2\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>increased the fee for refuse collection<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in a bid to improve upon sanitation.<\/p>\n<p>Residents in first class areas are to pay GHC 100; residents in second class areas will pay GHC 60 while residents in the third and fourth class areas will pay GHC 20.<\/p>\n<p>Industrial entities are to pay GHC 200 and commercial areas will pay GHC 150.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, Dr. Amoah stated that there are structural problems which need to be corrected before the prices are increased.<\/p>\n<p>These structural deficiencies, according to him, were highlighted about two months ago when refuse collection in the capital ceased due to the absence of a landfill site and the closure of the Accra Compost Plant.<\/p>\n<p>The structural deficiencies include, open drains, poorly structured sewage system, existence of slum areas, the indiscriminate dumping of garbage by residents in the city among others.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Amoah accused the AMA of \u201ctaking a narrow view\u201d of the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs it money?
