A woman believed to be in her 30s has been arrested for attempting to dump her three day old baby girl in a big gutter at Koblimahigu, a suburb of Tamale.<\/span><\/p>\n

She was arrested by good Samaritans at the scene and accosted to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Northern Regional police command where she pleaded guilty.<\/p>\n

She was already carrying a two-year old malnourished baby girl who she fled with to Accra for Kayaye.<\/p>\n

In her statement, she felt rejected by her husband and her family relations in Tamale when she returned from Accra with a fatherless baby girl.<\/p>\n

The Northern Regional DOVVSU Coordinator, ASP Emmanuel Holortu told Citi News the woman in her statement revealed that she was a native of Nantong in the Savelugu\/Nantong district.<\/p>\n

He said she was later granted self recognizance bail after spending several hours at the DOVVSU office.<\/p>\n

According to ASP Emmanuel Holortu, the three days old baby has been handed over to the Nyohini Orphanage.<\/p>\n

One of the baby\u2019s rescuers, Dipali Walshe-Naa, Osman Sulemana said but for his timely intervention, the woman would have dumped the baby in the gutter.<\/p>\n

He narrated that some two ladies alerted him about the woman\u2019s suspicious conduct when she was spotted around the Koblimahigu gutter.<\/p>\n

Dipali-Naa Osman Sulemana said he confronted the psychologically traumatized lactating mother who admitted that she wanted to kill the baby girl.<\/p>\n

The rescued baby girl was asleep when Citi News visited the Nyohini Orphanage.<\/p>\n

The house mother, Elizabeth Aba Annan affectionately called Auntie Betty said she was in safe hands.<\/p>\n

The three days old baby was named Wun-nam Dakpema and is being fed with lactose.<\/p>\n

Madam Betty complained about lack of water and erratic power supply at the orphanage.<\/p>\n

She appealed to philanthropists and well meaning Ghanaians to support the orphans.<\/p>\n

The Nyohini children\u2019s home currently has 25 orphans with the senior most being 17.<\/p>\n
