A former first National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has told Citi News<\/strong>, the party\u2019s image has been dented by Tuesday\u2019s violence at the party\u2019s headquarters.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I say no damage has been caused, I probably will be lying to myself,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Fred Oware noted that the NPP which is known to be a democratic party is gradually losing its credentials.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t find the right words to express myself,\u201d he lamented, adding that it was an unfortunate incident \u201cand I wish it hadn\u2019t happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

A news conference by the NPP<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u2019s National Chairman and General Secretary was disrupted by some irate youth wielding guns and machetes.<\/p>\n

They were demanding the resignation of the party\u2019s general secretary, Kwabena Agyapong over certain appointments and dismissals of some party officials.<\/p>\n

Calm has since been restored through the intervention of the chairman, Paul Afoko and some personnel of the Ghana Police Service.<\/p>\n

The act has been widely condemned by ex-President John Kufuor<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, presidential aspirant of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Add<\/strong><\/span><\/a>o, other political parties and the general public<\/p>\n

Mr. Oware acknowledged that although the act was shameful, the NPP will resolve its internal matters to enable it present a formidable front in 2016.<\/p>\n

He however maintained that contrary to widely held perceptions, the party is not in crisis \u201cand what happens beyond this point will determine that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Oware was hopeful that if the aggrieved members of the party are able to \u201cbottle up\u201d their concerns, \u201cI do not think that we should have any problems.\u201d<\/p>\n

With two years to the general elections, the former vice chair of the NPP said it is a great opportunity for the party to repair \u201cwhatever damage that has been caused.\u201d<\/p>\n

He counseled party executives and members to make sure that \u201cwithin the shortest possible period, we are able to make amends the Ghanaian public.\u201d<\/p>\n
