{"id":40464,"date":"2014-08-20T09:31:59","date_gmt":"2014-08-20T09:31:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=40464"},"modified":"2014-08-20T09:33:06","modified_gmt":"2014-08-20T09:33:06","slug":"we-cant-admit-any-more-cholera-patients-korle-bu-polyclinic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=40464","title":{"rendered":"We can\u2019t admit any more cholera patients  \u2013 Korle Bu Polyclinic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Authorities at the Korle Bu Polyclinic in the Greater Accra region are asking hospitals in the region to stop referring cholera cases to the facility.<\/p>\n<p>The authorities say staff and resources at the hospital are over stretched and cannot admit any more cholera cases.<\/p>\n<p>The number of cholera cases in the Greater Accra Region has<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/19\/5000-cholera-cases-recorded-in-g-accra-45-dead-since-july\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/strong><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/19\/5000-cholera-cases-recorded-in-g-accra-45-dead-since-july\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">increased from 3,600 to 5,000 with 45 deaths since July this year<\/span><\/a><\/strong><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/19\/5000-cholera-cases-recorded-in-g-accra-45-dead-since-july\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The polyclinic has so far,<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2014\/08\/19\/korle-bu-polyclinic-overwhelmed-by-cholera-cases\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">recorded over 900 cholera case<\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">s<\/span><\/a><\/strong> and four related deaths out of the total number of cases recorded in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <b>Citi News<\/b>, the Head of Public Affairs at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Mustapha Salifu said the Out Patient Department (OPD) has been turned into a makeshift clinical bay due to\u00a0the increasing number of cholera cases reported at the polyclinic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the outbreak of Cholera, we have seen close to 1,000 cases. The major part of the Polyclinic has been taken over by these cholera cases. The OPD is partitioned into two and part of it is being used to nurse cholera patients,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a cholera bay that is full; some of the consulting rooms are being used to manage cholera cases. The Korle Bu Polyclinic is inundated with these cases,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Salifu stated that the polyclinic can no longer receive patients suffering from the disease as a result of the increasing pressure mounting on its staff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t want to receive further referrals from other hospitals to the Korle Bu polyclinic because our staff our overstretched.
