{"id":40395,"date":"2014-08-19T16:27:09","date_gmt":"2014-08-19T16:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=40395"},"modified":"2014-08-19T17:04:04","modified_gmt":"2014-08-19T17:04:04","slug":"chale-wote-2014-comes-off-this-weekend-23-24-august","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=40395","title":{"rendered":"Chale Wote 2014 comes off this weekend, 23-24 August"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This weekend, over 200 artists will transform old Accra into a live museum with a long trail of multi-disciplinary art. <em><strong>CHALE WOTE<\/strong> <\/em>2014 will open with a heady rush of sights, sounds and vibrant creations by Ghanaian and international artists in James Town.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Festival producers, <strong>ACCRA [dot] ALT<\/strong>, are collaborating with REDD Kat Pictures, Foundation for Contemporary Art Ghana, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, NO LIMIT Charity and Attukwei Art Foundation for this year\u2019s festival.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This is the fourth edition of the festival since it started in 2011.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Last year was a major success because of the collective effort of many young people\u2014ranging from artists, musicians and writers to designers, students and activists. The two-day festival will feature graffiti murals, film screenings, theater, installations, live music performances, a fashion circus, extreme sport, dance, spoken word and art workshops.<\/p>\n<p>The festival drew over 3,000 people last year and a lot more people are expected to attend this fourth edition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">CHALE WOTE 2014 welcomes installation projects by internationally acclaimed participants \u2013 mixed media\/visual artist Rasik Green [Johannesburg, SA], dance performance artist Yinka Esi Graves, visual and installation artist Charlotte Chapman [UK] and Edwin Sacasa [US] amongst the visiting artists creating at CHALE WOTE this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Over the years, Chale Wote has seen a significant increase in international participation. This has facilitated skill and knowledge exchange between Ghanaian artists and their international peers. The festival has also created an interest in Ghanaian art across the continent, which in turn makes Ghana a cultural destination.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Ghanaian visual artists Ibrahim Mahama, Bernard Akoi-Jackson, Adjoa Amoah, Ato Annan, Atukwei Clottey, Adjo Kisser and I.U.B. have some of the most compelling works to be exhibited at the festival this year.
