Legal practitioner, Yaw Oppong, has described as \u201cunfortunate\u201d the government’s response to the demands of a new leadership by the General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church.<\/p>\n
Pastor Mensah Otabil last Thursday likened Ghana to a \u201csinking\u201d ship, which he said needs a \u201cdecisive captain\u201d, rather than an \u201coverconfident\u201d one, to steer the rudder out of the midst of \u201cicebergs\u201d to safety.<\/p>\n
Our ship is going down, and we can\u2019t pretend it\u2019s a party,\u201d he told the gathering at the \u2018Festival of Ideas\u2019 programme in Accra.<\/p>\n
According to the Ghanaian lawyer, Dr. Otabil’s description of the current economic crisis was apt. He hit the nail right on the head.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Citi FM<\/strong>\u2019s Saturday analysis programme, The Big Issue<\/em><\/strong>, Mr. Oppong criticized government for the name calling and attacks on the preacher by some officials.<\/p>\n The legal practitioner admonished government to take the views of the renowned Ghanaian pastor in good faith. Adding that \u201cDr. Otabil\u2019s statements are the reality on the ground\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n Pastor Otabil\u2019s comments have attracted strong condemnation from government officials including the Communications Minister Dr. Omane Boamah, who described Dr. Otabil\u2019s statements as \u201cunfortunate.\u201d<\/p>\n Another panelist on the show financial consultant, Sidney Casely Hayford, also chastised government for being in self denial about Ghana\u2019s challenges.<\/p>\n He opined that \u00a0the only way Ghana can emerge from its current economic dilemma is for President John Mahama and his appointees to accept the realistic challenges confronting the nation and quickly institute measures to solve them.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
