The BBC will continue to show highlights every weekend on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b04fddc9\">Match of the Day,<\/a> part of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/28688855\">more than 12 hours of television coverage<\/a> every weekend across BBC One and BBC Two.<\/p>\n<p>Prize money for the winners, including their share of television money, is likely to be near \u00a3100m. Last year, Manchester City earned \u00a396.5m, \u00a31m less than second-placed Liverpool, who earned more as they were on television more times.<\/p>\n<p>Cardiff, who finished bottom and were relegated, earned \u00a362m.<\/p>\n<div id=\"bbccom_companion_28733368\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/28573296\">The major innovation this season is the vanishing spray<\/a> introduced at the World Cup, which sees the referee spray a white line, which disappears after a short period, on the pitch to ensure a defensive wall stands 10 yards away from a free-kick taker.<\/div>\n<p>The season promises to produce one of the most open title races in memory, with five teams expected to battle for the championship.<\/p>\n<p>Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has gone two years without winning a trophy, having won one in each of the nine seasons before that, but has added more than \u00a380m of talent to his side this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Spain internationals <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/27704137\">Diego Costa<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/27819204\">Cesc Fabregas<\/a> come in, with club legend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/28492365\">Didier Drogba<\/a> returning on a free transfer.<\/p>\n<table>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>\n<h2>Biggest Premier League transfers of the summer<\/h2>\n<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Alexis Sanchez <\/strong>[Barcelona &#8211; although he has still spent \u00a350m.<\/p>\n<p>The club have also had their wage bill capped and can only name 21 players, instead of 25, in their Champions League squad.<\/p>\n<p>After leaving his job as Netherlands boss to take up the position vacated at Old Trafford by Moyes, Van Gaal has already made his mark, bringing in Spanish midfielder <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/27993874\">Ander Herrera<\/a> for \u00a329m and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/28048866\">making Southampton left-back Luke Shaw the most expensive teenager in the history of football<\/a> &#8211; paying an initial fee of \u00a327m for the English 18-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>Arsenal, meanwhile, won their first trophy in nine years when they <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/27354148\">beat Hull in the FA Cup final in May, <\/a> and are bidding for their first league title in 11 years, boosted by the signing of Barcelona forward Sanchez.<\/p>\n<p>The Gunners won the Community Shield, the annual season curtain-raiser, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/28647186\">3-0 against Manchester City at Wembley last Sunday.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Liverpool mounted a surprise title challenge last season, leading the table at the beginning of May, but may struggle for a repeat after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/28327201\">selling 31-goal top scorer Luis Suarez to Barcelona<\/a> in a \u00a375m deal.<\/p>\n<p>One of the major talking points of the summer was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/28593032\">Southampton&#8217;s sale of five key players.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Following the departure of manager <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/27579306\">Mauricio Pochettino<\/a> to Tottenham, they sold <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/27647888\">Adam Lallana,<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/28492306\">Dejan Lovren<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/27629474\">Rickie Lambert<\/a> to Liverpool &#8211; who they face on Sunday &#8211; for a combined \u00a349m, plus Shaw to Manchester United and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/28497920\">Calum Chambers<\/a> to Arsenal for \u00a316m.
