The General overseer of the International Central Gospel Church, Dr. Mensa Otabil says Ghana needs a new leadership to tackle the current socio-economic challenges facing the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe times we are in require leadership that responds to crisis with clarity and with purpose,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
He said it will be dire for citizens to continue assuming that \u201cthis will get better.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr. Otabil counseled that it is imperative for government, together with Ghanaians, \u201cto act intentionally, decisively, methodically and if we do at the national level, I think we can avert the disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n
Addressing the launch of this year\u2019s \u201cFestival of Ideas\u201d in Accra, Dr. Otabil stated it is obvious that \u201call is not well\u2026I believe that we need a new leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to him, Ghanaians cannot afford to be \u201cperplexed and so overwhelmed by what we hear, we see that we become frozen in action and do nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said it was time government accepts the current challenges and draw up specific plans to steer the nation out of its present dilemma.<\/p>\n
Ghana is grappling with a series of socio-economic challenges ranging from rising inflation, erratic supply of electricity, depreciation of the Ghana cedi and high cost of living, among others.<\/p>\n
The government has given indications it is working to resolve the challenges.<\/p>\n
It has currently sought a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and it has also signed a second compact with the Millennium Challenge Corporation designed to double access to power on the African continent.<\/p>\n
However, Dr. Otabil believes there is the need for a massive overhaul of strategies employed by government to ensuring a socio-economic turnaround.<\/p>\n
Regarding the depreciation of the cedi, Dr. Otabil indicated that although Ghanaians are praying for stability, the cedi has a very \u201cpeculiar mind of its own\u201d adding that instead of sitting around and hoping for a turnaround, \u201cit will be great for us to face reality that things could get worse.\u201d<\/p>\n
He urged Ghanaians to continue assuming the best for the nation but that should be done cautiously, bearing in mind that \u201cthe worst could be happening.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to him, the leadership of the country must be seen to be consciously involved in addressing the nation\u2019s current challenges.<\/p>\n
