{"id":39207,"date":"2014-08-14T14:57:04","date_gmt":"2014-08-14T14:57:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=39207"},"modified":"2014-08-14T16:35:55","modified_gmt":"2014-08-14T16:35:55","slug":"usa-to-help-ghana-battle-ebola-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=39207","title":{"rendered":"USA to help Ghana battle Ebola disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United States of America has declared its willingness to assist Ghana to fight the Ebola disease should there be an outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>Four countries in the West African sub region \u2013 Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria have all been hit by disease.<\/p>\n<p>The disease has killed over a 1000 people in Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia and Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Finance Ministry on Thursday to release GH\u20b5 6 million to\u00a0 procure protective gear to fight the epidemic should there be an outbreak in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Also,\u00a0 the USA president, Barack Obama promised\u00a0 on Monday, to provide the needed technical, material and financial assistance to help West Africa combat the disease.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana has not recorded any case of the disease yet.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to<strong> CitiNews,<\/strong> the American Ambassador to Ghana, Gene Cretz\u00a0 affirmed President Obama\u2019s announcement and pledged to provide all the necessary help Ghana would need to deal with an outbreak<strong>.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy guess is that given what has happened in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia,\u00a0 there has been a massive assistance.<\/p>\n<p>My sense will be that if we had an outbreak here, which I hope we won\u2019t, my effect will be to copy the models that we\u2019ve done in those countries to provide whatever assistance to Government to contain it,\u201d he added<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) dispatched three courses of the experimental <b>Zmapp<\/b> drug to three doctors in Liberia on Wednesday and the drug is expected to help prevent the killer disease from spreading further in the sub-region.<\/p>\n<p><b>About the Ebola Virus<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Ebola, a viral haemorrhagic fever, is one of the deadliest diseases known to humans, with a fatality rate of between 55% and 90%.
