{"id":39113,"date":"2014-08-14T10:00:17","date_gmt":"2014-08-14T10:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=39113"},"modified":"2014-08-14T10:56:39","modified_gmt":"2014-08-14T10:56:39","slug":"ghana-ranked-138th-on-2014-human-development-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=39113","title":{"rendered":"Ghana ranked 138th on  2014 Human Development Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ghana placed 138th out of 189 countries on the Human Development Report 2014 Rankings.<\/p>\n<p>The rankings are based on a country\u2019s development of its people in the areas of Education, Health and livelihood.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a02014 Human Development Report &#8211;\u00a0Sustaining Human Progress: Reducing Vulnerabilities and Building Resilience\u00a0which was presented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">shows that levels of human development continue to rise in Ghana although, at a slow pace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">The report also indicates that the gap between higher and lower human development groups is narrowing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The report further ranked Norway, Australia and Switzerland on top of the Human development Index while Niger, Congo DR and the Central African Republic were placed at the bottom.<\/p>\n<p>Although the report shows an overall slowdown in economic growth, Economic Specialist with the UNDP, Kordzo Sedega told <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, Ghana deserves applause for the rankings.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that in previous reports, Ghana was ranked 135th but \u201cyou might be tempted to think that Ghana has dropped to 138 but that was not the case because the methodologies are different.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGhana has not changed at all even though the value has increased marginally by .002 or so,\u201d he maintained.<\/p>\n<p>Sedega explained that experiencing human development is a gradual process and Ghana, he said, is gradually picking up since \u201cit used to be in the lower middle human development category.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ghana is now in the medium human development category.<\/p>\n<p>Human development indicators according to UNDP\u2019s economic specialist \u201cdo not change very much on a yearly basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/hdr.undp.org\/sites\/default\/files\/hdr14-report-en-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Click to read the\u00a0Human Development Report 2014 rankings<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<br \/>\n<a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/osamidan\" data-show-count=\"false\">Follow @osamidan<\/a><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\/\/ <![CDATA[\n!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=\/^http:\/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+':\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs');\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ghana placed 138th out of 189 countries on the Human Development Report 2014 Rankings.
