He told MPs, the missing baby saga \u201cmight be a symptom of a cancer happening in Komfo Anokye [Teaching Hospital]; It might be a failing management in Komfo Anokye [Teaching Hospital].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Manhyia South MP was contributing to a statement read on the missing baby saga by Majority Chief Whip, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, who called for \u201cdeeper\u201d national investigations into <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"1436ac6b-9082-4def-8938-0534e79b328b\">still births<\/span> and missing <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"24382686-92d8-48d9-b36b-f29f3269c734\">babies<\/span> around the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Speaker<span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"be1198e6-05c2-4254-ad3f-2678c4287ae7\">\u2026<\/span>I rise to support this statement because I have in the last 13 months in my personal life suffered some deaths as a result of Komfo Anokye [Teaching Hospital]. That is not the <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"2fec9278-920d-4f7b-9c95-1d290a9214c3\">issue but<\/span> we should look at why hospitals are failing Ghanaians in this country,\u201d Dr. <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"9e43712f-94de-42a9-9d46-9d20282e8e78\">Opoku<\/span> Prempeh, an MP from Kumasi, said.<\/p>\n<p>The seeming mystery surrounding the disappearance of at least five babies born recently at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has provoked national outrage, after one expectant mother went public with the loss of her baby boy.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors have claimed that Suweiba\u2019s baby boy died at <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"7bdb98df-28a1-42cb-9631-a4bc265f1fcb\">birth but<\/span> have failed to produce his remains. Police investigations have established that apart from Suweiba\u2019s baby, the hospital has failed to account for four other babies delivered around the same time at the Hospital. A number of hospital workers have since been dragged to court to face criminal charges.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"44f6c7c4-0aa5-4df3-9243-b726cff21981\">Opoku<\/span> Prempeh said \u201cit is sad\u201d that in spite of \u201call the protocols and procedures\u201d regarding childbirth, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital recorded such a mystery of missing babies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe matter is not punishment. The matter is <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"1fe05811-8390-4d89-b3e1-cae39e59ef1b\">reform<\/span> to make the right decisions at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He suggested that it was possible that babies of expectant women who went to the hospital to deliver may have been swapped with dead babies and that only a \u201cpublic inquiry\u201d can establish the truth.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Asawase MP, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, whose constituency hosts the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, echoed public calls for probe into the missing baby saga.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cMr. Speaker, there is <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"1e39c5c3-06bb-46f7-b36e-8669d84b601c\">need<\/span> for deeper investigation to be done<span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"89f86114-d6f9-4b26-a3f5-428b1f4449cf\"> \u2026<\/span>in all the regions of Ghana for persons who might have suffered the same fate as Suweiba to come out; so we will be better informed as to how to restructure our facilities to prevent this\u201d from happening again.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Suweiba told <strong><em>Citi FM<\/em><\/strong> in an exclusive interview that she believed her baby \u201cis alive\u201d and not dead as claimed by hospital authorities.<\/p>\n<p>In her words, \u201cThe way the hospital authorities and everybody involved in the matter are having different sayings I am convinced that my baby is alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Richard Dela Sky\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Manhyia South Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, on Tuesday called for an \u201cappropriate and wide-ranging inquiry\u201d into the missing baby saga at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
