{"id":38145,"date":"2014-08-10T07:14:04","date_gmt":"2014-08-10T07:14:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=38145"},"modified":"2014-08-10T07:14:04","modified_gmt":"2014-08-10T07:14:04","slug":"union-savings-train-smes-on-the-need-pay-tax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=38145","title":{"rendered":"Union Savings train SMEs on the need pay tax"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Union Savings and Loans through its Small and Medium Scale Enterprise (SME) Clinic has offered free education on the new 17.5 percent VAT\/NHIL to clients.<\/p>\n<p>Education on the provision of the VAT Act 2013 (Act 870) on financial services for which fees and commissions are imposed has generally been low in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Head of Policy and Programme unit at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Francis Ocran, tax first of all is a \u201ccompulsory structuring payment made by a designated person to government\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Explaining the need for small businesses to oblige and pay their taxes, Mr. Ocran noted that the current tax threshold stands at GHC 120,000.<\/p>\n<p>He also used the opportunity to urge SMEs to keep proper and accurate records of their businesses to enable them file the tax accordingly.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_38152\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38152\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Union-c.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-38152 \" alt=\"Some participants at the clinic\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Union-c-300x123.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"123\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Union-c-300x123.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Union-c.jpg 470w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-38152\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Some participants at the clinic<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mr. Ocran further revealed that Ghana Revenue Authority has no immediate plans of revising the current tax threshold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur concern is not with the amendment of the threshold. Our concern is with implementing the new additions like the tax on financial services and real estate\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The threshold is the amount of taxable sales that qualifies one to register for Value Added Tax. The current figure at the time of proposal corresponded to the international threshold of 100, 000 dollars.
