{"id":381366,"date":"2017-12-08T18:25:15","date_gmt":"2017-12-08T18:25:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=381366"},"modified":"2017-12-08T18:32:05","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T18:32:05","slug":"nation-builders-corps-workers-to-earn-gh%c2%a2-600-monthly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=381366","title":{"rendered":"Nation Builders Corps &#8216;workers&#8217; to earn GH\u00a2600 monthly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuah has revealed that workers of the Nation Builders Corps (NBC) will receive a minimum monthly salary of GH\u00a2600.<\/p>\n<p>The amount is slightly above the allowances of National Service Personnel who earn GH\u00a2559 monthly.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;oiLxD7hyBYXq6FkdbsNGbqEHrjg7sXnF&#8221;]The Nations Builders Corps was announced as a government initiative in the 2018 budget to <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/15\/ghbudget-special-initiative-nbc-to-employ-100000-graduates\/\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>provide 100,000 jobs<\/strong><\/span><\/a> to graduates at a cost of GHc 600 million.<\/p>\n<p>The focus of the initiative is to improve public service delivery in health, education, agriculture, sanitation and also drive revenue mobilization and collection.<\/p>\n<p>The programme has come under criticism from the Minority in Parliament and\u00a0 Policy think tank, <a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/21\/nation-builders-corps-initiative-waste-of-money-imani-ghana\/\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Imani Africa<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They have cited a duplication of roles with the already existing Youth Employment Programme.<\/p>\n<p>But\u00a0responding to a question from MP for Ashaiman, Ernest Norgbey on what government was doing to create jobs for Ghanaians, Baffour Awuah says the corps was still being fashioned out properly by the government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy office, together with the office of the president, is working together to come out with the modules that will be under this particular project,\u201d the Minister stated to Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>On questions relating to corp&#8217;s remuneration, Mr.\u00a0Baffour Awuah said the gross salary is expected to be around GHc 600.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026 all things being equal, the 100,000 will work for 10 months [in 2018] so if you divide this [the GHc 600 million budget allocation] by the 10 months for 100,000 people, it suggests that on a monthly basis, each person will get GHc 600,&#8221; he explained.<\/p>\n<p><strong>462 jobs per district<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The NBC is expected to provide every one of Ghana\u2019s 216 districts with jobs for 462 graduates, the Minister said.<\/p>\n<p>The programme, which will be managed\u00a0by the office of the President, will focus on alleviating shortfalls in public service delivery.<\/p>\n<p>NBC has a number of subsets which are connected to other major government targets and initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>It will have a \u201cClean Ghana\u201d Programme for sanitation, a \u201cHeal Ghana\u201d module for health, \u201cRevenue Ghana\u201d programme for tax collection, a \u201cTeach Ghana\u201d module for education and a \u201cFeed Ghana\u201d module for agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>The NBC is also envisioned to alleviate the Ghana&#8217;s graduate unemployment problems<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Duke Mensah Opoku\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Ignatius Baffour Awuah has revealed that workers of the Nation Builders Corps (NBC) will receive a minimum monthly salary of GH\u00a2600.
