A 22-year-old national of Gabon has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing an Ivorian to death at Weiman in Accra.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

John Maviane, a student of the Ambassador University College at Lapaz, is believed to have struggled with the 24-year-old Ivorian, Madeleine Josian E. Souaduo, before stabbing her in the abdomen several times.<\/p>\n

The police also discovered that the Ivorian was stabbed in the neck and right hand.<\/p>\n

Mob action\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Relating the incident, the Accra Regional Crime Officer, \u00a0Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Paul Kontoma, said about 4:30p.m. last Thursday, the police received information that a man was being beaten by a mob.<\/p>\n

\u201cA patrol team was dispatched to the scene, and when the police arrived the mob had pounced on a man who had emerged from the room of Madeleine with a laptop under his armpit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the mob which had initially suspected that Maviane was a thief started beating him when the body of Madeleine was found in a pool of blood in her room.<\/p>\n

He said a search on the suspect led to the retrieval of a kitchen knife with blood stains on it.<\/p>\n

Eyewitness account\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

A man who raised the alarm for the arrest of the suspect claimed that he had been invited by Madeleine to fix an electrical gadget for her in her room.<\/p>\n

He said on knocking at her door, a different voice asked him to wait outside.<\/p>\n

After a long wait, the eyewitness said, he saw Maviane escaping from the lady’s room through a back door with the laptop and his face covered, a development which caused him to raise the alarm that Maviane was a thief.<\/p>\n

Police interrogation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr Kontoma said during interrogation, Maviane told the police that he had been a friend of the lvorian for about seven months.<\/p>\n

According to the suspect, he had visited the lady three days earlier and left his ipad and had gone back for it that Thursday.<\/p>\n

He claimed that the two of them smoked for a while and when he decided to leave, Madelin prevented him from doing so and pulled out a kitchen knife and threatened to stab him.<\/p>\n

He said Maviane further claimed to have engaged in a struggle with Madeleine, overpowered her and ended up stabbing her.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
