{"id":378725,"date":"2017-11-29T14:18:53","date_gmt":"2017-11-29T14:18:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=378725"},"modified":"2017-11-29T14:18:53","modified_gmt":"2017-11-29T14:18:53","slug":"alan-pardew-appointed-west-brom-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=378725","title":{"rendered":"Alan Pardew appointed West Brom manager"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sp-story-body__introduction\">West Brom have appointed former Newcastle and Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew as manager.<\/p>\n<p>The Baggies\u00a0sacked Tony Pulis\u00a0on 20 November after they went 10 Premier League games without a victory and were a point above the relegation zone.<\/p>\n<p>Pardew, 56, has been out of the game since being\u00a0sacked by Palace\u00a0in December 2016.<\/p>\n<p>He has signed a contract until the end of the 2019-20 season, becoming Albion\u2019s sixth manager since 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m thrilled with the opportunity Albion have provided and looking forward to getting to work with what I consider to be a talented group of players,\u201d\u00a0said Pardew,<i class=\"sp-story-body__external-link-icon gelicon gelicon--external\"><\/i>\u00a0a former team-mate of West Brom technical director Nick Hammond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe immediate challenge will be to get the results we need to pull ourselves up the table.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I\u2019m aware that while I\u2019m joining one of the great, traditional clubs of English football, it is one determined to go forward in the Premier League.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pardew\u2019s first game in charge will be against Palace in the league at the Hawthorns on Saturday, 2 December (15:00 GMT).<\/p>\n<p>Albion then face trips to Liverpool and Swansea before a home fixture against Manchester United.<\/p>\n<p>John Carver, Pardew\u2019s former assistant at Newcastle, will join the West Brom backroom staff.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant head coach Gary Megson, who took temporary charge following Pulis\u2019 dismissal, has left the club.<\/p>\n<p>Pardew, who has also had spells at Reading, West Ham, Charlton and Southampton in an 18-year managerial career, lost the FA Cup final twice as a manager.<\/p>\n<p>He was named League Managers\u2019 Association\u00a0Manager of the Year in 2012\u00a0after Newcastle finished fifth place in the Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>West Brom chairman John Williams said: \u201cWe were impressed with what he had to say and what he has to offer and we are looking forward to an exciting new era under his charge.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"sp-story-body__cross-head\">Pardew\u2019s Premier League stats<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Pardew had a 34.3% Premier League win percentage at Palace, compared to 37.4% at Newcastle, 36.4% at West Ham and 26.3% at Charlton<\/li>\n<li>His overall Premier League win percentage is 35.8%<\/li>\n<li>With Palace, Pardew became the first Premier League manager to guide a club to a top-half finish after being in the relegation places at Christmas<\/li>\n<li>Pardew has managed 302 Premier League games<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"sp-story-body__cross-head\">Pardew\u2019s controversial managerial career<\/h3>\n<p>While in charge of West Ham in 2006, Pardew was\u00a0involved in a confrontation\u00a0with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2014, he\u00a0swore at\u00a0Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini while in charge of Newcastle.<\/p>\n<p>Two months after that, he was\u00a0fined \u00a3100,000 and given a formal warning\u00a0for headbutting Hull City midfielder David Meyler.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>West Brom have appointed former Newcastle and Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew as manager.
