Former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings says Ghana going to the International Monetray Fund (IMF) for a bailout is a clear indication that the country is not doing well.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2019No country goes to the IMF when you are doing well; when you are doing well you don\u2019t go to the IMF, You only call on the IMF when you are collapsing,\u2019\u2019 she told Accra based Adom FM on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
According to her no country doing well economically defers to the IMF for support. She noted that Ghana is heading in the direction of \u2018\u2019a collapsed state\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Konadu added that if the IMF provides support for a nation and the nation fails to address issues of corruption and building infrastructure \u2018\u2019you will always go back to them.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2019When you go to the IMF it is not because you are a strong country; you only go there when you are a weak and collapsed country,\u2019\u2019 she reiterated.<\/p>\n
She also dismissed reports in a section of the Ghanaian media that she plans to rejoin the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).<\/p>\n
The wife of former president, Jerry Rawlings left the NDC to form the National Democratic Party (NDP) three years ago after her failed bid to become the flagbearer of the ruling party in 2011 \u2013 where she contested the late president John Evans Atta-Mills in a presidential primary.<\/p>\n
However, some media reports on Tuesday suggested that the founder of the 31st December Women\u2019s Movement was rejoining the party she helped found in 1992.<\/p>\n
Mrs Rawlings described the reports as baseless and unfounded.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am not moving away from the NDP and I have not changed my mind. Conditions for which I left the NDC are still rife. Corruption in the party, disrespect and even the unbridled thievery in the party accounted for my exit. Intolerance and untruthfulness on the part of the party leadership played a key role in my exit,\u201d Mrs Rawlings told Accra-based Adom FM.<\/p>\n
In her view, some journalists in the country are fond of publishing stories about her and her husband in a bid to promote and sell their newspapers.<\/p>\n
