{"id":368031,"date":"2017-11-03T15:22:10","date_gmt":"2017-11-03T15:22:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=368031"},"modified":"2017-11-03T15:22:10","modified_gmt":"2017-11-03T15:22:10","slug":"7-npp-supporters-arrested-over-sissala-west-chaos-bailed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=368031","title":{"rendered":"7 NPP supporters arrested over Sissala West chaos bailed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The seven New Patriotic Party (NPP) members suspected to have played various roles in disturbances at Gwollu in the Sissala West District, have been granted a Ghc5,000 each with two sureties by a Wa High Court.<\/p>\n<p>The court, presided over by Justice Kwesi Boakye, took the decision after counsel for the\u00a0seven, Ubaidu Sadique, appealed for their release initially at a Wa Circuit court.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;00QoDWWnQtEKZ4dXUT88c3vrlCsw6Hk1&#8243;]The large number of people gathered up at the Circuit Court, prompted the transfer of the case to the High Court, possibly for security reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the bail, the accused persons are to\u00a0report weekly to the Sissala West District Police Commander, starting next Monday, November 6.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, Lawyer Ubaidu Sadique said\u00a0he felt justice has been\u00a0served &#8220;because there was no basis for the seven to have been remanded because all the ingredients for them to have been granted bail were available.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"https:\/\/contextly.com\/redirect\/?id=GF4CuEdrtU:367990:2934:13:::sidebar:59fc7efbe71bd6-76798624\">substantive\u00a0case<\/a><\/strong><\/span> is yet to be determined at the Wa Magistrate Court, which will continue hearing the matter on Wednesday, November 8.<\/p>\n<p>The seven have\u00a0been\u00a0charged with\u00a0rioting and are suspected to have instigated the youth, who stormed the\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/10\/26\/sissala-west-dce-locked-up-by-angry-npp-youth\/\">DCE\u2019s office<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>and locked it up.<\/p>\n<p>The agitating youth also complained that\u00a0they were being neglected in favour of people aligned to the DCE,\u00a0Mohammed Bako.<\/p>\n<p>The Sissala West Constituency Chairman of the\u00a0NPP was one of the suspects remanded on Wednesday November 1, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The other six were identified as Alidu Mumuni, Mahamudu Forkah, Walika Iddrisu, Adamu Sumani, Zaato,\u00a0Sulley\u00a0 Mohammed and Gbene Lukeman.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upper West NPP Chairmen\u00a0threaten protests<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All 10 constituency chairmen of the\u00a0NPP in the\u00a0Upper West Region <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/11\/03\/uwest-npp-chairmen-threaten-chaos-over-sissala-west-arrests\/\">threatened massive demonstrations<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in protest\u00a0of the decision by the Wa Magistrate Court to remand the seven\u00a0if they were not granted bail.<\/p>\n<p>One of the Chairmen, who spoke to\u00a0<strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u00a0on condition of anonymity, said their decision was communicated to the regional security council and the leadership of the NPP in the region on Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>The Upper West Regional Constituency\u00a0chairmen of the NPP believe the seven persons remanded were wrongly arrested.<\/p>\n<p>The governing NPP is already under scrutiny following the increase in the instances of political\u00a0vigilantism that has seen similar attacks on District Assemblies and other state institutions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Latif Mahama\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The seven New Patriotic Party (NPP) members suspected to have played various roles in disturbances at Gwollu in the Sissala West District, have been granted a Ghc5,000 each with two sureties by a Wa High Court.
