{"id":36612,"date":"2014-08-03T13:16:26","date_gmt":"2014-08-03T13:16:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=36612"},"modified":"2014-08-04T11:48:15","modified_gmt":"2014-08-04T11:48:15","slug":"imf-bailout-will-stabilise-cedi-finance-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=36612","title":{"rendered":"IMF bailout will stabilise Cedi &#8211; Finance Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Finance, Seth Tekpeh says the government\u2019s main objective\u00a0for opting for an International Monetary Fund (IMF) program is to stabilize the <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"2509e45a-d958-4d03-9bb2-f8f87ccd6755\">cedi<\/span> and to achieve a more predictable economy for investors.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"8a1fe0d9-4981-4cec-8408-6e2ac2fa8958\">Government<\/span> on Saturday announced that it would open talks for with the IMF for a bailout to support the country\u2019s ailing economy.<\/p>\n<p>President Mahama directed that immediate initiatives be taken to open discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other development partners in support of Ghana\u2019s program for stabilization and growth.<\/p>\n<p>The latest move follows months of uncertainty over whether <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"d9cf1e38-0d5b-48b1-8932-62d0b57bf866\">government<\/span> would fall on the IMF for assistance.<\/p>\n<p>But Mr. <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"2291f081-b8a7-4509-aa83-f72bf640ac6f\">Terkper<\/span>, noted that the IMF bailout will help consolidate Ghana\u2019s lower middle income status.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ultimate objective is to stabilize the <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"c6fa26ee-83c2-4fc8-aa72-534984cc8d28\">cedi<\/span> in order that domestic prices<span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"f4c0d216-7a50-4c6d-838e-93c208aad9e4\">\u2026<\/span>will be brought under control and therefore that is a consumer welfare of what is to be done,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, \u201cwhen you stabilize the <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"4b43eff6-47fe-4d64-b307-2e64d596c8cb\">cedi<\/span> you are also looking at a situation where investors do see a more predictable economy as they bring their investments into the economy.
