In the US, around 40<span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"8b598a1c-523d-43be-b69d-81f1d2820777\">% while<\/span> in\u00a0Asia\u00a0it is\u00a0more\u00a0than half the population.<\/p>\n<p id=\"story_continues_2\">In recent years there have been a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/tailoreddisplays.com\/\">number of projects<\/a>\u00a0that have attempted to use computing screens to correct vision problems.<\/p>\n<p>The authors of this\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/graphics.berkeley.edu\/papers\/Huang-EFD-2014-08\/Huang-EFD-2014-08.pdf\">latest study<\/a>\u00a0say their prototype offers &#8220;significantly higher contrast and resolution compared to previous solutions&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Follow the light<\/p>\n<p>The team from the University of California, Berkeley, working with colleagues at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), developed an algorithm that adjusts the intensity of each direction of light that emanates from a single pixel in an image, based on the user&#8217;s specific visual impairment.<\/p>\n<p>Their prototype used an iPod, with a printed pinhole mask attached to the screen.
