{"id":364704,"date":"2017-10-24T16:30:10","date_gmt":"2017-10-24T16:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=364704"},"modified":"2017-10-24T16:30:10","modified_gmt":"2017-10-24T16:30:10","slug":"no-more-cement-blocks-la-presby-students-finally-get-desks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=364704","title":{"rendered":"No more cement blocks; La Presby students finally get desks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was an exciting atmosphere at the La Presby Senior High School as CEO of McDan Shipping Company, today [Tuesday], honored his promise by providing hundred desks to assist first year students who had been forced to sit on cement blocks due to the pressure brought on by the Free SHS policy.<\/p>\n<p>According to McDan Shipping, the Tuesday morning delivery is the first batch of the entire package promised the school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi FM<\/strong> has given the infrastructure deficit in senior high schools extensive coverage, prompting a pledge from the Education Ministry to\u00a0make the necessary provisions to the needy schools.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-364750\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/McDan-donates-desks-to-La-Presby-16.jpg\" alt=\"mcdan-donates-desks-to-la-presby-16\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-364748\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/McDan-donates-desks-to-La-Presby-15.jpg\" alt=\"mcdan-donates-desks-to-la-presby-15\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The school had already made headlines when its headteacher, who was\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/09\/14\/la-presec-head-interdicted-over-illegal-fees-after-swerving-ges\/\">subsequently interdicted<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>by the Ghana Education Service, said first-year students under the Free SHS policy, had to pay GHc 80 for desks or risk standing during classes.<\/p>\n<p>The La Presby first-year students were seen to be sitting on\u00a0makeshift chairs comprising wooden planks supported by cement blocks.<\/p>\n<p>The CEO of McDan Shipping, Daniel Makorley, subsequently visited the school and pledged to donate furniture to first-year classrooms.<\/p>\n<p>As part of their celebrations upon receipt of the desks, the students were heard\u00a0shouting\u00a0appellations like \u201cone man one seat, \u201cno bore blocks\u201d, \u201cour backs will rest\u201d and \u201cno more back pains again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-364746\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/McDan-donates-desks-to-La-Presby-13.jpg\" alt=\"mcdan-donates-desks-to-la-presby-13\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-364742\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/McDan-donates-desks-to-La-Presby-9.jpg\" alt=\"mcdan-donates-desks-to-la-presby-9\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The students expressed their gratitude to the company, saying the desks will go a long way to improve teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;God bless him. We thank him for what he has done for us. May he get a long life; I don&#8217;t even know how to express myself today,&#8221; one student\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This time we can learn hard.
