Malaria has been named as the top most killer in Ghana.<\/p>\n
According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) based in Atlanta, USA 13 percent of deaths recorded in Ghana in 2010 were caused by malaria the highest among the ten other causes named.<\/p>\n
Statistics from CDC<\/span> also show that HIV and lower respiratory infections are the third and second top killers in Ghana.<\/p>\n Nine percent of deaths recorded in 2010 were caused by HIV while another nine percent was also caused by lower respiratory infections (pneumonia, lung abscess and acute bronchitis).<\/p>\n The report also placed stroke and cancer at number four and five respectively.<\/p>\n Eight percent of deaths recorded were caused by stroke<\/span> while six percent were caused by cancer.<\/p>\n Ischemic heart disease comes in at number six with five percent, it is a heart disease characterized by reduced blood supply to the heart.<\/p>\n While Sepsis (blood poisoning) non medical term, comes in at number seven at four percent.<\/p>\n Protein – energy malnutrition comes in at number eight at three percent.<\/p>\n Road injuries came in at number nine with three percent while<\/span> meningitis comes<\/span> in at number ten also with three percent<\/span>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Vivian Kai Mensah\/citifmonline<\/span>\/Ghana\/Atlanta<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Malaria has been named as the top most killer in Ghana.
