{"id":360869,"date":"2017-10-10T17:23:28","date_gmt":"2017-10-10T17:23:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=360869"},"modified":"2017-10-10T17:23:28","modified_gmt":"2017-10-10T17:23:28","slug":"over-50-ghanaians-fighting-for-isis-libyan-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=360869","title":{"rendered":"Over 50 Ghanaians fighting for ISIS \u2013 Libyan gov\u2019t"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Libyan government has announced that it has identified at least 50 frontline fighters of ISIS to be Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a report from an enquiry into crimes committed in cities across Libya by the so-called Islamic State released by the Head of Investigations at the Office of the Attorney General, Al-Seddiq al-Sour.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a press conference in late September, al-Sour said the government had identified other countries such as Senegal, Mali and Niger, as also having their nationals as part of ISIS in Libya.<\/p>\n<p>In the report, the Libyan Attorney General said Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, and Sudan, had more than 100 of their nationals serving in the Salafi jihadist militant group.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_360874\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-360874\" style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-360874\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Nationalities-of-Islamic-State-fighters.jpg\" alt=\"Nationalities of Islamic State fighters\" width=\"900\" height=\"500\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-360874\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nationalities of Islamic State fighters<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It said Ghana, Gambia, Senegal, Niger, Chad, Mali, and Eritrea, had between 50 and 100 of its nationals in the militant group committing various crimes in Libya.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0inclusion of some Ghanaians in ISIS is an issue that has not been thoroughly investigated by Ghanaian authorities, as no official government communication has denied or confirmed the report.<\/p>\n<p><strong>KNUST graduate joins ISIS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2015, the Daily Guide newspaper reported that, a 25-year- old graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/08\/25\/knust-graduate-joins-isis-terrorist-group\/\">Nazir Nortei Alema, had joined the terrorist organization<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Extracts from Nazir\u2019s WhatsApp message, received by Kabir, his brother, read as follows: \u201cPray for me, for I will never forget you in my prayer and it\u2019s my hope and prayer that we meet\u00a0again if not in this world then in Jannah (paradise). I love you all. May Allah\u00a0grant us understanding and guide us all to the straight path. Asalaamu alaikum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told you a lie to please my Allah. I know it might sound kind of crazy for you but your son really had to take this bold step to get out of the corrupt system of Ghana which has democracy first on its list.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nazir&#8217;s family confirmed his disappearance, and he has since not returned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>German-Ghanaian who denounced ISIS faces war crimes charges<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Harry Sarfo, a German Ghanian, earlier this year, also <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/01\/04\/german-ghanaian-who-denounced-isis-faces-war-crimes-charges\/\">confessed to having been a fighter for ISIS<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.
