{"id":35954,"date":"2014-07-31T10:18:48","date_gmt":"2014-07-31T10:18:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=35954"},"modified":"2014-08-01T21:41:39","modified_gmt":"2014-08-01T21:41:39","slug":"eu-bans-vegetables-from-ghana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=35954","title":{"rendered":"EU bans vegetables from Ghana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">The European Union (EU) has put a temporary ban on export of vegetables from Ghana to their region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The ban was put in place after EU authorities identified some vegetables from Ghana which did not meet their quality standards.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time Ghanaian farmers and exporters have had to face this setback.<\/p>\n<p>Some months ago, mangoes from Ghana were also banned because of fly infestation.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana faced another sanction last year, when the EU noted that fish supposedly from Ghana did not really come from Ghanaian territorial waters.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the latest news, the Minister of Agriculture, Fiifi Kwetey said the Ministry is putting measures in place to address the issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a country, we will from time to time have some of these concerns. I don\u2019t think it is the first time we have had those concerns. We are clearly going to take them on board in order to ensure that if we are going to have sustainable exports, we cannot afford to compromise on quality,\u201d he assured.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, \u201csome of the quality we are talking about is not something at the Ministerial level. It has to do with production that is taking place down on the farms.
