{"id":359479,"date":"2017-10-06T11:21:32","date_gmt":"2017-10-06T11:21:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=359479"},"modified":"2017-10-06T11:21:32","modified_gmt":"2017-10-06T11:21:32","slug":"personnel-deployed-to-address-traffic-situation-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=359479","title":{"rendered":"Accra floods: Personnel deployed to address traffic situation \u2013 Police"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Police Service has deployed more personnel to various parts of the capital, Accra, to restore calm and order on the major roads after a Friday morning downpour.<\/p>\n<p>There is heavy vehicular traffic on major roads in the country such as Spintex Road, Kaneshie and Kasoa after the rain.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;nKTt0q6RUZjOj9fVcmgqEER37FusioS1&#8243;]The situation has resulted in serious congestion on the roads due to the immotorable nature of some adjoining roads.<\/p>\n<p>Some drivers who called into the <strong>Citi Breakfast Show<\/strong> lamented that attempts by other drivers to manoeuvre their way through traffic have resulted in a gridlock, requiring police presence to restore order.<\/p>\n<p>But Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alexander Obeng, Head of Education, Research and Training, MTTU, has said that the Police have already deployed personnel to address the situation.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_359487\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-359487\" style=\"width: 747px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-359487\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Traffic-Situation-at-Tetteh-Quarshie.jpg\" alt=\"Traffic situation at Tetteh Quarshie\" width=\"747\" height=\"419\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-359487\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Traffic situation at Tetteh Quarshie<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cTraffic police officers are scattered all over those areas. We are doing what we have to do. It is because of the coincidence that it is rush hour, and usually traffic is there and it&#8217;s intended indiscipline among motorists, and the rains that have blown down burying the road compounding traffic, but there shouldn\u2019t be panic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is easing all over. Now we are on the ground and we are doing what we have to do,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Many parts of Accra and Kumasi have been submerged in flood waters, curtailing\u00a0vehicular movement after few hours of rain on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Most drivers have been forced to make a detour, while others have parked their vehicles due to the pool of flood waters on major highways.<\/p>\n<p>Areas such as Teshie-Nungua, Lapaz, Shiashie, Darkuman and Kaneshie in Accra and Kumasi Ahensan, have been badly affected.<\/p>\n<p>The flooding situation has resulted in a gridlock in areas such as Tetteh Quarshie, Kaneshie and Lapaz.<\/p>\n<p>The situation according to the Works and Housing Minister, Samuel Atta Akyea, may not improve until the country makes a $700 million investment to permanently fix it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<br \/>\nBy: Jonas Nyabor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Police Service has deployed more personnel to various parts of the capital, Accra, to restore calm and order on the major roads after a Friday morning downpour.
