{"id":353117,"date":"2017-09-13T12:46:38","date_gmt":"2017-09-13T12:46:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=353117"},"modified":"2017-11-10T11:24:45","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T11:24:45","slug":"npps-national-council-to-meet-over-constitution-review-proposals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=353117","title":{"rendered":"NPP\u2019s National Council to meet over constitution review proposals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Council of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), will today [Wednesday], hold a crunch meeting aimed at setting up a Committee to review proposals for constitutional amendment of the party&#8217;s constitution.<\/p>\n<p>The Committee will have a month or two to finish its work and report back to the Council.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;MVq563boB74kLUYQMqeIhK9wGyyqb9iv&#8221;]The meeting by the Council, which is the second highest decision making body of the party, comes weeks after the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/08\/26\/delegates-conference-npp-defers-review-of-constitution\/\"><strong>NPP&#8217;s conference<\/strong><\/a><\/span> in Cape Coast where it was agreed that a Committee will be set up to review all proposals.<\/p>\n<p>President Akufo-Addo and his Vice Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, are expected to be present at the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The NPP will further in December 2017 hold an extraordinary conference to adopt or reject the reviewed proposals for amendment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NPP founding fathers kick against constitutional review<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Association of <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/09\/07\/npp-founding-fathers-kick-against-constitutional-review\/\"><strong>Founding Fathers<\/strong> <\/a><\/span>and Patrons of the NPP in the Ashanti Region, earlier kicked against proposed changes to the party\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n<p>It warned that some of the amendments being canvassed were problematic and could create trouble for the party.<\/p>\n<p>The Association at a press conference addressed by its Chairman, Kofi Obiri Yeboah in Kumasi, made reference to the suggestion that Member of Parliament (MP)\/Parliamentary Candidate is allowed to appoint constituency and polling station officers, and described it as outrageous.<\/p>\n<p>They added that the party had come too far \u201cto throw democracy to the dogs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Sammi Wiafe\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Council of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), will today [Wednesday], hold a crunch meeting aimed at setting up a Committee to review proposals for constitutional amendment of the party&#8217;s constitution.
