{"id":35286,"date":"2014-07-29T15:58:43","date_gmt":"2014-07-29T15:58:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=35286"},"modified":"2014-07-29T17:51:21","modified_gmt":"2014-07-29T17:51:21","slug":"ebola-virus-ghana-cant-close-its-borders-agalga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=35286","title":{"rendered":"Ebola virus: Ghana can\u2019t close its borders &#8211; Agalga"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Interior has indicated that it will close all borders of the country to prevent anyone with\u00a0 the Ebola virus from entering Ghana on the advice of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).<\/p>\n<p>There is widespread concern about the preparedness of the Health Ministry and the Ghana Health Service to protect citizens against the Ebola disease.<\/p>\n<p>The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) says both institutions are not adequately prepared to tackle the disease.<\/p>\n<p>The GIS has also disclosed that its personnel are not adequately equipped to effectively man the country\u2019s borders and neither do they have the requisite protective gear to protect themselves against the disease.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Minister of Interior, James Agalga told<strong> Citi News<\/strong>, government has not taken the decision to close all entry points into the country.<\/p>\n<p>He said the government is aware of the Ebola disease but \u201cthe Ministry of Health is working in conjunction with the Immigration. They have put measures at our borders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the government is hoping that the spread of the disease in neighbouring West African countries will not deteriorate \u201cto the point where we have to close our borders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Agalga acknowledged that the country\u2019s borders are porous \u201cand people come into the country through unapproved routes so that is the real difficulty we are having.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said it is not practical for Ghana to close its borders because \u201cday in day out, people just cross our borders like that. Some have their families across borders.
