{"id":352223,"date":"2017-09-11T06:05:38","date_gmt":"2017-09-11T06:05:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=352223"},"modified":"2017-11-10T11:59:15","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T11:59:15","slug":"free-shs-mahamas-e-blocks-schools-wont-be-left-out-ges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=352223","title":{"rendered":"Free SHS: Mahama\u2019s E-Blocks students won&#8217;t be left out &#8211; GES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The E-Blocks commissioned by former President John Mahama are among the schools that will receive the first cohort of students to benefit from the government\u2019s Free Senior High School program.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to the Chairman of the Ghana Education Service Council, Mr. Michael Kenneth Nsowah.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;U2tE2fKrwadWiKX0A1HN82yE0nsxpmH9&#8243;]Speaking on the <strong>Big Issue<\/strong>, he said the schools were computed into the list of Senior High Schools made available as options for Junior High School graduates to choose from for their placement.<\/p>\n<p>The E-blocks were part of the former government\u2019s Community Day Senior High School Project (CSHSP) which was proposed in 2012 to increase access to SHS and to decongest existing schools.<\/p>\n<p>200 new schools were to be built in underserved rural communities in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Before the John Mahama government left office, about 40 of the schools were ready to admit fresh.<\/p>\n<p>In the discussions around the new government\u2019s flagship Free SHS program, many have wondered if the E-block will be included as the NPP criticized the project.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_352011\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-352011\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-352011\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Michael-Kenneth-Nsowah-4.jpg\" alt=\"Michael Kenneth Nsowah\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-352011\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Michael Kenneth Nsowah<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Michael Kenneth Nsowah told the host, Umaru Sanda Amadu that students will be admitted to the schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh yes. They are all on the list. They gave us the number of students they can take and they are all there. These are day schools,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the Community Day Senior High Schools built last year have already admitted the first batch of students but the first batch of students under the Free SHS program will be admitted this year.<\/p>\n<p>The government\u00a0has said it will serve all day-students lunch as part of the Free SHS program, despite the lack of proper eating places for some schools but according to Mr. Nsowah, while government tries to resolve the issue, heads of the various schools can develop ingenious\u00a0ways of ensuring there is a healthy and convenient place of eating for students who will receive the lunch pack from government.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Jonas Nyabor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The E-Blocks commissioned by former President John Mahama are among the schools that will receive the first cohort of students to benefit from the government\u2019s Free Senior High School program.
