{"id":350873,"date":"2017-09-05T11:47:48","date_gmt":"2017-09-05T11:47:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=350873"},"modified":"2017-11-10T12:05:53","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T12:05:53","slug":"judge-unhappy-with-delay-in-delta-force-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=350873","title":{"rendered":"Judge unhappy with delay in Delta Force case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The judge at the Kumasi Circuit\u00a0Court presiding over the case of the 13 members of the pro-New Patriotic Party vigilante group, Delta Force, Mary Nsenkyire, has expressed dissatisfaction with the prosecution&#8217;s delay in the case.<\/p>\n<p>She made the comment after the prosecutor, ACP Okyere Darko, asked the court for adjournment, stating that they were still awaiting advice from the Attorney General on the case.<\/p>\n<p>The judge subsequently adjourned the case to October 10, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;XU1raikVnV8G92iSpdgzeY70rRlLinEG&#8221;]Meanwhile, counsel for the accused, Frederick Kankam Boadu, said they may be forced to take other legal actions should there be further delay in the process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 13 were arrested after they stormed the office of the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator and allegedly assaulted him in the process.<\/p>\n<p>They subsequently <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/04\/07\/escaped-delta-force-members-report-themselves-to-police\/\"><strong>escaped<\/strong><\/a><\/span> from a Kumasi Circuit Court\u2019s custody after some of their members sparked confusion when they were arraigned and charged with conspiracy to assault a public officer and causing unlawful damage.<\/p>\n<p>The 13 suspects have already been fined <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/04\/11\/13-delta-force-members-fined-ghc2400-each-for-escaping\/\"><strong>GHc 2,400<\/strong><\/a><\/span> each, and have been made to sign a bond of good behaviour for escaping lawful custody, whiles the substantive case against them still holds.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the fellow group members who aided their escape from court custody had the case against them controversially dropped.<\/p>\n<p>Initial reports indicated that, the Attorney General directed that the case be dropped with a Principal State Attorney, ACP Okyere Darko, saying that Gloria Akuffo had instructed the Police to stop pursuing the matter because they had insufficient evidence against the accused persons.<\/p>\n<p>But the government denied that it sanctioned a decision to drop the charges.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Lauretta Timah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The judge at the Kumasi Circuit\u00a0Court presiding over the case of the 13 members of the pro-New Patriotic Party vigilante group, Delta Force, Mary Nsenkyire, has expressed dissatisfaction with the prosecution&#8217;s delay in the case.
