President John Dramani Mahama says he will treat the concerns of Organised Labour’s demonstration with all the seriousness it deserves as it has inspired him to \u2018\u2019work harder.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2019…I have noted all the public manifestations and criticisms expressed about the state of the economy over the last several weeks; I have also noted the recent demonstration by Organised Labour. As a social democrat the working people are my natural allies; i therefore treat their concerns with all the seriousness they deserve,\u2019\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the 2014 edition of Eid-Ul Fitr prayers at the Kumasi Central Mosque, he stated that the message contained in the Organised Labour demonstration is \u2018\u2019an encouragement [for him] to work harder on matters of the economy\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n
The President also assured and promised workers that \u2018\u2019there are calmer waters ahead.”<\/p>\n
He noted that he spends most of his time on issues relating to the economy and the energy sector.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2019As captain of the ship of state, i can assure you that the signs of recovery will manifest in the latter part of this year for all of us to see,\u2019\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n
He also revealed that he will preside over a meeting of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Economic Recovery, which will implement measures to restore the economy into prosperity.<\/p>\n
\u2018\u2019We will work to stabilize the currency, to bring down inflation and bring down interest rate,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
He mentioned that government has had to implement \u2018\u2019some painful but necessary measures to protect the national economy and prevent a meltdown\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n
Organised Labour and other groups have been demonstrating and protesting the last one month for the current economic hardship in the country.<\/p>\n
President Mahama also used the occasion to congratulate all Muslims across the country for a successful Ramadan and thanked all religious leaders in the country for the tolerance and the peaceful co-existence in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cI urge believers of all religious faiths to continue in this spirit of unity, common purpose and togetherness as we all join our faiths together and pray for the nation; we are all one people and therefore religion must never ever divide us, but rather unite us,\u2019\u2019 he advised.<\/p>\n
President Mahama finally cautioned the youth to celebrate the occasion in moderation. \u2018\u2019It is a day of excitement and celebration, it is not a day of death and so please let us ride the motorcycles cautiously.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
