{"id":349557,"date":"2017-08-31T11:59:56","date_gmt":"2017-08-31T11:59:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=349557"},"modified":"2017-11-10T12:35:17","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T12:35:17","slug":"govt-unveils-free-shs-logo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=349557","title":{"rendered":"Gov&#8217;t unveils Free SHS logo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Government has unveiled a logo for its much touted Free Senior High School Education policy.<\/p>\n<p>The logo was unveiled by President Nana Akufo-Addo, during a ceremony at the Flagstaff House on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The logo for the Free SHS programme features two students celebrating because they are beneficiaries of the policy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-349563\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Free-SHS-logo.jpg\" alt=\"free-shs-logo\" width=\"600\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Underneath the symbol are three words; access, equity and quality and the logo features an open book, which the Minister of State in-Charge of Tertiary Education, Professor\u00a0Kwesi Yankah, explained: \u201crepresents learning that generates hope and optimism for a prosperous Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe central symbol portrays two children emerging from a pleasurable learning experience as they spontaneously explode in joy. They are beneficiaries of the policy that lifts the total burden of fees from parents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Free SHS programme, scheduled to start in September 2017,\u00a0will ensure that government absorbs the\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/27\/economic-challenges-wont-stop-free-shs-napo\/\">full cost<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>of public secondary education.<\/p>\n<p>Under the free SHS policy, beneficiaries will not have to pay admission fees, library fees, science centre fees, computer lab fees, examination fees and utility fees, according to the government.<\/p>\n<p>The free SHS policy will also cover agricultural, vocational and technical institutions at the secondary school level.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Education, in June 2017, also unveiled Ghanaian actor, Abraham Attah, as an ambassador for the Free SHS policy.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_349608\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-349608\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-349608 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Abrahm-Atta-Free-SHS.png\" alt=\"abrahm-atta-free-shs\" width=\"640\" height=\"394\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-349608\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abraham Attah (L) on his Free SHS ambassadorial rounds<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The move was heavily criticised for being unnecessary\u00a0in the grand scheme of things.<\/p>\n<p>Some critics also said Abraham Attah was not even schooling in Ghana as he is resident in the United States, courtesy of his acting career.<\/p>\n<p>The government is yet to release a policy document on this policy it has been trumpeting since 2008, which critics have noted is more important than the\u00a0developments pertaining to public relations.<\/p>\n<p>The absence of a policy document for the Akufo-Addo government\u2019s free SHS policy has in the past been noted as contributing to uncertainties about the timelines, source of funding and scope of the policy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Government has unveiled a logo for its much touted Free Senior High School Education policy.
