{"id":343260,"date":"2017-08-08T18:13:11","date_gmt":"2017-08-08T18:13:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=343260"},"modified":"2017-08-08T18:13:11","modified_gmt":"2017-08-08T18:13:11","slug":"ndc-members-petition-party-to-punish-martin-amidu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=343260","title":{"rendered":"NDC members petition party to punish Martin Amidu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two national Democratic Congress (NDC) members\u00a0have petitioned the Executive Committee of the NDC to sanction the outspoken Martin Amidu.<\/p>\n<p>The two,\u00a0Evans Amankwah and Abigail Elorm Mensah, contended that, despite Mr. Amidu being a leading member of the NDC, he has brought the party into disrepute and fueled public ridicule of the party.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;fIdcaf4Vc7orerG90zRS2JafG5HK65ts&#8221;]They also say he has weakened party unity and cohesion thus flouting Article 45 of the NDC\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n<p>The petition made references to evidence of these claims in the form links to articles Mr. Amidu had penned with allegations that the NDC, among other things, tried to rig the 2016 elections and had corrupt members of Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioners also referenced an article that had Mr. Amidu urging voters to <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com.gh\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=0ahUKEwiSqbugosjVAhVF2BoKHXf4CAUQFggkMAA&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fcitifmonline.com%2F2016%2F11%2F17%2Fvote-against-mahama-or-forget-woyome-cash-amidu%2F&amp;usg=AFQjCNFdoKo_E1OuULIgQfaGqbldb_O_1g\">vote against<\/a><\/strong><\/span> the NDC\u2019s presidential candidate, John Mahama in the 2016 polls if they wanted the State to recoup its money as part of the controversial\u00a0GHc 51 million judgment debt.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent reference from the petitioners had Mr. Amidu alleging that the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, was appointed to <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/08\/07\/ndc-appointed-charlotte-osei-to-rig-election-martin-amidu\/\">help rig<\/a><\/strong><\/span> the 2016 elections in favour of the NDC at the presidential and parliamentary level.<\/p>\n<p>The petitioners said they were unwavering in their belief that\u00a0Mr. Amidu\u2019s conduct was \u201ccarefully designed to expose the party public hatred, ridicule and opprobrium and to lower its reputation in Ghana and elsewhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The two petitioners are former parliamentary candidates on the ticket of the NDC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Call on Amidu to leave party<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Amidu&#8217;s criticism of the NDC attracted a call from a former deputy Chief of Staff, Valerie Sawyerr to him to resign from the NDC.<\/p>\n<p>Valerie Sawyerr\u00a0in a lengthy article targeted at Mr. Amidu had \u201cbecome a so-called crusader, sinking lower and lower in the NDC as he seems to rise higher in the NPP.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said Martin Amidu started on the warpath against the NDC when he was relieved of his post as Attorney- General after attempting to assault a sitting Head of State.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two national Democratic Congress (NDC) members\u00a0have petitioned the Executive Committee of the NDC to sanction the outspoken Martin Amidu.
