{"id":34320,"date":"2014-07-24T15:35:52","date_gmt":"2014-07-24T15:35:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=34320"},"modified":"2014-07-24T15:35:52","modified_gmt":"2014-07-24T15:35:52","slug":"game-locked-workers-on-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=34320","title":{"rendered":"Game locked: Workers on strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds of\u00a0shoppers who\u00a0turned up at the Game shop\u00a0\u00a0in\u00a0the Accra Mall, were left stranded\u00a0due to a\u00a0declared strike by the\u00a0workers.<\/p>\n<p>The workers are protesting management\u2019s failure to increase their salaries in the last 14 months.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <b>Citi News<\/b>, the Vice Chairman of the Accra Mall Workers Union which is also affiliated to the Ghana Federation of Labour, Nana Ofori, described management\u2019s attitude towards the\u00a0workers \u00a0as \u201cinhuman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He accused management of Game of\u00a0only increasing the salaries of top management by 10 percent while neglecting the lower ranks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe currently have all the staff outside and the main aim is to show our displeasure towards management for not appreciating our hard work over a period of 14 months &#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While management has\u00a0received 10 percent increment last year from July we have not gotten anything up till now, \u201c he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr . Ofori stated that efforts to engage management in a negotiation had proved futile.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are trying to engage the manager in a negotiation which he is unwilling to talk about\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He therefore stated that workers\u00a0will continue with their demonstration until people know the reality on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have our own problems and fortunately or unfortunately it has happened on a day that Organised Labour is demonstrating and showing its displeasure towards government. Tomorrow we are continuing.
