{"id":342086,"date":"2017-08-04T19:02:33","date_gmt":"2017-08-04T19:02:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=342086"},"modified":"2017-08-04T19:02:33","modified_gmt":"2017-08-04T19:02:33","slug":"landslides-destroy-farms-in-adaklu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=342086","title":{"rendered":"Landslides destroy farms in Adaklu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN\">Hundreds of farmers in Adaklu in the Volta Region are counting their losses after landslides wreaked havoc on several acres of their farm\u00a0lands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">The explosion which was followed by spouting water from the mountains occurred on Sunday, destroyed about 70 acres of farm lands according to officials of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-342097 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Landslides-destroy-farms-in-Adaklu-5.jpg\" alt=\"landslides-destroy-farms-in-adaklu-5\" width=\"600\" height=\"382\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-342090\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Landslides-destroy-farms-in-Adaklu-3.jpg\" alt=\"landslides-destroy-farms-in-adaklu-3\" width=\"598\" height=\"395\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">About five communities along the mountain including Kodiabe,\u00a0Helekpe\u00a0and Abuadi were affected. Residents say, they heard a loud noise from the heights on Sunday night and woke up later to meet the destruction on their farms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">The Assembly member for Adaklu-Helekpe told <strong>Citi\u00a0News<\/strong> farm crops such as maize, palm oil, plantain, cocoa yam and cassava were destroyed by the fallen rocks and the erosion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Located at the hips of Ho, the Volta Regional Capital, Adaklu Mountain is one of the highest mountains in Ghana with height of about 600 meters above sea level.\u00a0\u00a0The mountain is used for tourism activities and serves as farming area for residents. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Terraced crops of farmers are often seen at the base of the mountain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-342096 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Landslides-destroy-farms-in-Adaklu-1.jpg\" alt=\"landslides-destroy-farms-in-adaklu-1\" width=\"600\" height=\"372\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-342091\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Landslides-destroy-farms-in-Adaklu-2.jpg\" alt=\"landslides-destroy-farms-in-adaklu-2\" width=\"600\" height=\"388\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">The recent disaster renewed speculations from residents about the effects of quarry activities along the mountains.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">The regional Coordinator of NADMO, Mr Devine Bosson who was on assessment tour today [Thursday], told Citi\u00a0News although no causalities were recorded, he is engaging experts to survey and examine the cause of the explosion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">Residents who now live in fears are calling for government\u2019s intervention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">\u201cWe are pleading with government to come to our aide.
