{"id":333846,"date":"2017-07-04T11:49:12","date_gmt":"2017-07-04T11:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=333846"},"modified":"2017-07-04T11:49:12","modified_gmt":"2017-07-04T11:49:12","slug":"report-86-vehicles-secured-under-rawlings-regime-unused","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=333846","title":{"rendered":"Report: 86 vehicles secured under Rawlings&#8217; regime unused\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Normal1\">A clear case of governmental wastage is depicted at the Institute of Local Government Studies in Accra, where <strong>Citi News&#8217;<\/strong> Duke Mensah Opoku, reports that 86 unused\u00a0state vehicles have been abandoned for nearly twenty years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal1\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Mensah Opoku went to the Institute to see the 86 vehicles purchased by the Rawlings administration that have become a symbol of governmental misuse of public funds, and found that they are still unused.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal1\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The vehicles have withstood, \u201cyears of wear and tear and harsh weather conditions. The original spray coated vehicles are actually turning brown,\u201d said Opoku, his hands brushing the bonnets of the vehicles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-333851\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Rawlings-vehicles-1.jpg\" alt=\"rawlings-vehicles-1\" width=\"929\" height=\"1080\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal1\">But despite the damaged car bodies, the leather interiors were intact, confirming that they have been untouched.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal1\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The case has come to light again after Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablawkwa, called on\u00a0the Administrator of District Assembly Common Fund to pay the sum of GHC 6 billion, a cost equal to the purchase of the vehicles, in 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-333849\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Rawlings-Vehicle-3.jpg\" alt=\"rawlings-vehicle-3\" width=\"1373\" height=\"810\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal1\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">In 2014, it was revealed that, the debt covering the vehicles had been paid, with the support of the Judgment Debt Commission, presided over by Justice Yaw Appau.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal1\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">The debt covered the original purchase of 110 vehicles.
