{"id":333542,"date":"2017-07-02T22:29:26","date_gmt":"2017-07-02T22:29:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=333542"},"modified":"2017-07-02T22:29:26","modified_gmt":"2017-07-02T22:29:26","slug":"parts-of-kumasi-flooded-after-3-hour-downpour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=333542","title":{"rendered":"Parts of Kumasi flooded after 3-hour downpour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Parts of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have been flooded following a three hour downpour on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Some affected areas include Aboabo, Asebi Junction and Asokore Mampong.<\/p>\n<p>The Aboabo stream known as Pelele has also been flooded and residents in the area are currently struggling to use the foot bridge on the stream.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-333546 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/kumasi-flood-4.jpg\" alt=\"kumasi-flood-4\" width=\"810\" height=\"721\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Flooding in the area in <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/06\/28\/kumasi-airport-roundabout-flooded-after-heavy-rains\/\"><strong>2015<\/strong><\/a><\/span> destroyed a lot of properties while some <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/06\/30\/mahama-visits-kumasi-flood-victims-photos\/\"><strong>five persons<\/strong><\/a><\/span> lost their lives.<\/p>\n<p>Former President John Dramani Mahama at the time promised to reconstruct the foot bridge into a bigger size.<\/p>\n<p>He also promised to ensure that the Pelele stream was dredged to forestall the perennial flooding challenges in the area.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-333544 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/kumasi-flood-2.jpg\" alt=\"kumasi-flood-2\" width=\"808\" height=\"610\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although the dredging took place, it was later stopped.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-333543 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/kumasi-flood-1.jpg\" alt=\"kumasi-flood-1\" width=\"797\" height=\"729\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly also demolished about 30 wooden structures built on water ways to prevent flooding in the area but this new development suggests that the measures adopted have really not been effective in tackling flooding within the said areas.<\/p>\n<p>In a related development, a football match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports in Kumais was brought to an <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/07\/02\/hearts-of-oak-asante-kotoko-president-cup-clash-rained-off\/\"><strong>abrupt end<\/strong><\/a><\/span> following the downpour which made the pitch\u00a0difficult to play on.<\/p>\n<p>The match\u00a0dubbed the President&#8217;s Cup was however postponed to the next day for the game to continue.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Lauretta Timah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parts of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have been flooded following a three hour downpour on Sunday evening.
