{"id":331875,"date":"2017-06-27T12:20:02","date_gmt":"2017-06-27T12:20:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=331875"},"modified":"2017-06-27T12:20:02","modified_gmt":"2017-06-27T12:20:02","slug":"koforidua-presby-jhs-a-holds-maiden-graduation-ceremony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=331875","title":{"rendered":"Koforidua Presby JHS \u2018A\u2019 holds maiden graduation ceremony"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the oldest mission schools in the Koforidua Municipality, Presby Junior High School \u2018A\u2019, has held its first ever graduation ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The colourful event, held on Wednesday, 21st June, 2017 at the P.C.G Koforidua District Ascension Hall, was organized to officially graduate 68 Students who took part in the 2017 BECE after Nine (9) years of basic education.<\/p>\n<p>The occasion also gave the final year students the opportunity to hand over the mantle of leadership to their JHS 2 counterparts who have been elected as Prefects for the 2017\/18 academic year, and officially send off the Assistant Headmistress, Madam Margaret Effah Danquah who is due for retirement in July 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The programme was under the theme \u2018Student\u2019s Discipline and Child Right\u2019: The Role of Basic School Teacher.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-331882\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Students-1-1024x732.jpg\" alt=\"students-1\" width=\"620\" height=\"443\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Delivering her annual report at the ceremony, the Headmistress of the school, Ms. Vivian Obuobisa, enumerated a number of challenges hampering effective teaching and learning in the school.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_331880\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-331880\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-331880\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Mistress-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Headmistress of the School, Ms Vivian Obuobisa-Darko delivering her Report.\" width=\"620\" height=\"414\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-331880\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Headmistress of the School, Ms Vivian Obuobisa-Darko delivering her Report.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>These she said includes the lack of a place of convenience for teachers and conducive classrooms for JHS One and Three Students.<\/p>\n<p>She consequently called for support from the Government, NGO\u2019s, Faith Based Organizations, Corporate Bodies and Philanthropists to remedy the worrying situation to facilitate quality teaching and learning in the School.<\/p>\n<p>The Guest Speaker was the Eastern Regional Manager of Presby Schools, Mrs. Ivy Asantewa Owusu.<\/p>\n<p>In a speech read on her behalf by the Head of Inspectorate at Presby Education Unit, Koforidua, Pastor Ebenezer Obeng Tieku, she stressed the need for discipline in schools and why the basic school teacher must set the pace.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_331879\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-331879\" style=\"width: 620px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-331879\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Ebenezer-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Pastor Ebenezer Obeng-Tieku delivering the Keynote Address on behalf of the Eastern Regional Manager Of Presby Schools.  \" width=\"620\" height=\"414\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-331879\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pastor Ebenezer Obeng-Tieku delivering the Keynote Address on behalf of the Eastern Regional Manager Of Presby Schools.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIn ensuring students discipline, it behooves the basic school teacher to act, behave and position himself or herself as a role model to the very students he or she teaches\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<p>She also reiterated the fact that \u201crules and regulations that fall within the ambit of policy governing public education must be put in place to help guide the behavior and conduct of students of in Schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Ivy Asantewa Owusu again admonished teachers to respect and protect the rights of students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBasic School teachers must however, not lose sight of the fact that students (children) have rights that must be respected and protected against the backdrop of wanting to nip indiscipline in the bud in our schools\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Children and for that matter students have rights as human beings and also need special care and protection&#8221; (Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF, 2005). P.K Dekyem, District Minister-PCG, Koforidua, Rev. Foster Ampofo, Second Minister-PCG Koforidua, and Rev.
