An Economist, Godfred Bokpin has praised organised<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0labour\u2019s<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> decision to embark on a national protest, describing it as \u201cgood for Ghana\u201d.<\/p>\n

Organised<\/span><\/span><\/span> Labour<\/span><\/span><\/span> declared its decision to embark on a one-day protest on Thursday, 24 July, 2014 and asked \u201call workers in the formal and informal sector to stay away from work and converge at designated locations in Accra and other regional capitals to demonstrate.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Federation of Labour<\/span><\/span><\/span> has however<\/span><\/span><\/span> expressed \u00a0disinterest in the intended \u00a0protest.<\/p>\n

The General Secretary of the Federation, Abraham Koomson<\/span><\/span><\/span> believes the TUC\u2019s action is politically motivated.<\/p>\n

He described TUC\u2019s decision<\/span><\/span><\/span> as \u201cpopulist and politically motivated\u201d.<\/p>\n

But speaking on Citi FM\u2019s<\/strong> News Analysis Programme<\/span><\/span><\/span>, The Big Issues<\/em><\/strong>, Mr. Bokpin<\/span><\/span><\/span> commended the TUC for its decision saying<\/span><\/span><\/span>: \u201cconsistently TUC has shown that there are key stakeholders in the economy. They follow key development in the economy and they have made inputs into our economic development process\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the decision has become necessary considering the fact that government<\/span><\/span><\/span> had \u201cgone to bed\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have come to accept excuses and I don\u2019t think it\u2019s good enough\u2026.<\/span><\/span><\/span>it\u2019s about time we let government<\/span><\/span><\/span> know that there is a limit you can go,\u201d Mr. Bokpin<\/span><\/span><\/span> said.<\/p>\n

He noted that the monitoring and evaluation in the public sector is gradually reducing<\/span><\/span><\/span> as a result of government\u2019s lack<\/span><\/span><\/span> of concern.<\/p>\n

The Executive Director of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe on the other hand asked the TUC to show a certain level of \u201cresponsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his opinion, the TUC should rather carry out a retrenchment plan to prune out its unproductive employees than depending on government to resolve the current economic challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn as much as I agree with them that the government has done a lot of damage to the economy, let us also put a part of the blame on the TUC.<\/p>\n

“They are too many, they are running around doing nothing\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/span>If the TUC doesn\u2019t have the tools, they should stay home,\u201d said Franklin Cudjoe<\/p>\n
