{"id":328857,"date":"2017-06-16T12:58:22","date_gmt":"2017-06-16T12:58:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=328857"},"modified":"2017-06-16T12:58:22","modified_gmt":"2017-06-16T12:58:22","slug":"ecg-cuts-power-to-lapaz-for-turning-transformer-into-refuse-dump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=328857","title":{"rendered":"ECG cuts power to Lapaz over refuse at transformer site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some parts of Lapaz and surrounding areas in the Greater Accra Region, are currently in darkness following a deliberate action by the Kaneshie branch of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to cut power supply to them.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-328864 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/ECG-transformer-at-lapaz-10_1000x562.jpg\" alt=\"ecg-transformer-at-lapaz-10_1000x562\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to the ECG, it took the action because one of its transformers situated at the Lapaz lorry park has been turned into refuse dump.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-328873 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/ECG-transformer-at-lapaz-1_1000x562.jpg\" alt=\"ecg-transformer-at-lapaz-1_1000x562\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-328872 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/ECG-transformer-at-lapaz-28_1000x562.jpg\" alt=\"ecg-transformer-at-lapaz-28_1000x562\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The ECG has vowed not to restore power to the affected areas until the filth is cleared.<\/p>\n<p>Parts of the Lapaz township as well as other areas that take their power supply from the said transformer including Abrantie and parts of Nyamekye junction, have been without power for the past three days.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_328870\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-328870\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-328870 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/ECG-transformer-at-lapaz-24_1000x562.jpg\" alt=\"ecg-transformer-at-lapaz-24_1000x562\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-328870\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The cleared filth at the transformer<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-328869 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/ECG-transformer-at-lapaz-19_1000x562.jpg\" alt=\"ecg-transformer-at-lapaz-19_1000x562\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-328867 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/ECG-transformer-at-lapaz-14_1000x562.jpg\" alt=\"ecg-transformer-at-lapaz-14_1000x562\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But the transport operators who occupy the lorry park have insisted that they are not to blame for the filth around the transformer.<\/p>\n<p>According to the drivers, the lorry park has dedicated trucks that collect refuse from the park on a daily basis, adding that the filth that has engulfed the transformer were carried there by the wind.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-328861 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/ECG-transformer-at-lapaz-6_1000x562.jpg\" alt=\"ecg-transformer-at-lapaz-6_1000x562\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-328862 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/ECG-transformer-at-lapaz-7_1000x562.jpg\" alt=\"ecg-transformer-at-lapaz-7_1000x562\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, when <strong>citifmonline.com<\/strong> visited the park on Friday morning, the filth has been cleared from the transformer which had been barricaded with wire gauze.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman of the Ghana Road Transport Union (GPRTU) branch at the Lapaz lorry park, Aboagye Asare, told <strong>citifmonline.com<\/strong> that the leadership of the lorry park organized some of their men to clear the filth at the site.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-328859 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/ECG-transformer-at-lapaz-4_1000x562.jpg\" alt=\"ecg-transformer-at-lapaz-4_1000x562\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was very angry when they [ECG] told us that the light had been taken off because of the refuse. We have a welfare scheme through which we bought our own trucks to collect refuse at this lorry park. So if you come and see refuse in your yard, how do you accuse us and put the light off? Who is not afraid to get closer to an ECG transformer. The filth is carried there by the wind. We even thought it was an electrical fault until we were told yesterday that it was due to the filth.
