{"id":325728,"date":"2017-06-06T06:00:02","date_gmt":"2017-06-06T06:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=325728"},"modified":"2017-06-06T06:00:02","modified_gmt":"2017-06-06T06:00:02","slug":"govt-announces-gh%c2%a2500000-trust-fund-for-major-mahamas-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=325728","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t announces GH\u00a2500,000 Trust Fund for Major Mahama&#8217;s kids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The government has announced the setting up of a memorial Trust Fund with a seed money of GH\u00a2500,000 to support the education\u00a0of the children of <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/06\/02\/things-you-didnt-know-about-capt-maxwell-mahama\/\">Major Maxwell Mahama<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>who was killed in the line of duty at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region.<\/p>\n<p>President Akufo-Addo announced the package when he visited the family on Monday [June 5], as it observed\u00a0a week of the military man\u2019s passing.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;kXTxarbxg2cg5Wf2zvD05Xe45LKKGpol&#8221;]According to the president, the fund is specifically to take care of Major Mahama\u2019s wife and two children.<\/p>\n<p>He also pledged a personal donation of GH\u00a250,000 to the fund, which will have as part of its trustees Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, and former government\u00a0statistician, Grace Bediako.<\/p>\n<p>Other dignitaries who accompanied the president were Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo, Minister for Defense Dominic Nitiwul, National Security Minister Kan Dapaah and Trade Minister Alan Kyeremanten.<\/p>\n<p>Describing Major Mahama as a national hero, Nana Akufo-Addo added that, a state burial will be held for the soldier.<\/p>\n<p>He also noted that, the family\u2019s request that a monument is built to remind Ghanaians of the incident and the need to end the act of mob justice, will be granted.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Nana Akufo-Addo has approved a recommendation from the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. O.B.
