Mahama&#8217;s killing arrested"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Assembly member in Denkyira-Obuasi reportedly linked to the murder of Captain Maxwell\u00a0Mahama is in police custody.<\/p>\n<p>The assembly member, William Baah,\u00a0reportedly turned himself into police in the Diaso area, near Denkyira-Obuasi, on Wednesday afternoon, and is being transported to the Central Region Police Command.<\/p>\n<p>Five persons suspected to have taken part in the killing are also in the Central Regional Police after being picked up on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>One of the five suspects sustained a gunshot wound\u00a0during the lynching that resulted in the Army officer\u2019s death, and is receiving treatment.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Diaso-Lynching-suspects-arrests.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-324082\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Diaso-Lynching-suspects-arrests.jpg\" alt=\"diaso-lynching-suspects-arrests\" width=\"600\" height=\"404\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The five suspects have been identified as Bismark Donkor, Phillip Badu, Kofi Nyame, Anthony Amoah and Kofi Badu.<\/p>\n<p>Captain Mahama was armed at the time and fired off at least a shot during a struggle before\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/05\/30\/soldier-mistakenly-lynched-and-burnt-at-diaso\/\">being killed<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0by his attackers on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The other four suspects are being held at the Bakaano Police station in Cape Coast.<\/p>\n<p>Capt.\u00a0Mahama\u00a0was an officer of the 5th Infantry\u00a0Battalion and was said to have been on his daily jogging routine on Monday\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"https:\/\/contextly.com\/redirect\/?id=icjpvAbI1L:323727:2934:13:::sidebar:592d84c03840f1-10307654\">when he was lynched<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>He had been deployed there as part of an\u00a0anti-illegal mining operation.<\/p>\n<p>The residents claimed Captain Mahama was a robber as\u00a0he was in civilian clothing at the time, and with a\u00a0gun.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Police urges &#8216;guilty&#8217; to surrender<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The police in a later statement confirming William Baah&#8217;s arrest said: &#8220;the Inspector General of Police assures the public that police will employ all means possible to uncover circumstances leading to the murder and those behind it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The police also expressed confidence in its ability to probe the murder and warned &#8220;all persons who played roles in the murder to surrender to the nearest Police Station.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To this end, the Police Administration reassures the public that it is in constant collaboration with the military high command towards successful investigations of the murder of Captain Mahama.
