{"id":323196,"date":"2017-05-28T12:44:23","date_gmt":"2017-05-28T12:44:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=323196"},"modified":"2017-05-28T12:44:23","modified_gmt":"2017-05-28T12:44:23","slug":"british-airways-chaos-continues-at-heathrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=323196","title":{"rendered":"British Airways: Chaos continues at Heathrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">More than a third of British Airways flights from Heathrow have been cancelled as disruption to passengers enters a second day.<\/p>\n<p>The airline was hit by a worldwide computer system power failure on Saturday, causing cancellations and delays for thousands of passengers.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday departures from Gatwick are delayed, but none have been cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>The airline urged people to check the status of flights before before travelling to the airport.<\/p>\n<p>Heathrow Airport is providing an updated schedule on its website, as is Gatwick.<\/p>\n<p>BA apologised to customers for the issue, which is thought to have been caused by a problem with the IT system&#8217;s power supply.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape no-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef-1.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/media\/images\/66239000\/gif\/_66239292_line2.gif\" alt=\"line break\" width=\"624\" height=\"1\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/><\/span><\/figure>\n<p class=\"story-body__crosshead\"><strong>How many flights are affected?<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef-1.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/1775E\/production\/_96249069_hi039753330.jpg\" alt=\"Queues at Heathrow Terminal 5\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/><\/span><\/figure>\n<p>Between 06:00 and 11:00 BST on Sunday, 143 British Airways flights were scheduled to depart from London Heathrow and Gatwick Airport.<\/p>\n<p>So far 90 flights have left Heathrow and 36 have been cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>At Gatwick, one BA flight has been cancelled. Other flights are returning to schedule.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape no-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef-1.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/media\/images\/66239000\/gif\/_66239292_line2.gif\" alt=\"line break\" width=\"624\" height=\"1\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/><\/span><\/figure>\n<p>The airline is liable to reimburse thousands of passengers for refreshments and hotel costs.<\/p>\n<p>Customers displaced by flight cancellations can claim up to \u00a3200 a day for a room (based on two people sharing), \u00a350 for transport between the hotel and airport, and \u00a325 a day per adult for meals and refreshments.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than a third of British Airways flights from Heathrow have been cancelled as disruption to passengers enters a second day.
