The Ashanti Regional command of the Ghana Police Service says it will ensure that shops belonging to Nigerian retailers that were locked up on Monday are re-opened.<\/p>\n
Members of the Suame Spare Parts Dealers Association locked up shops belonging to Nigerian retailers on Monday July 14, 2014 accusing them of trading in retail spaces reserved for Ghanaians.<\/p>\n
The \u00a0PRO of the Ashanti regional police command, ASP Yussif Tanko informed Citi News<\/b> that they had the situation under control.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cwe held a meeting with them and made them understand that it is not lawful to close the shops of those whom they think were infringing on the law.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe told them to open the shops for the people to continue with their activities till such a time that the issue will be resolved according to law. Tomorrow we will be going to find out whether they opened those shops or not.\u201d<\/p>\n
On his part the Chairman of the Spare Parts Dealers, Association Kwame Brenyah says they have agreed to pursue the matter legally.<\/p>\n
As such, he is calling on the Trade Ministry to clamp down on these foreign retailers.<\/p>\n
