{"id":318323,"date":"2017-05-11T16:26:37","date_gmt":"2017-05-11T16:26:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=318323"},"modified":"2017-05-11T16:26:37","modified_gmt":"2017-05-11T16:26:37","slug":"egypt-uncovers-burial-chamber-of-pharaohs-daughter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=318323","title":{"rendered":"Egypt &#8216;uncovers burial chamber of pharaoh&#8217;s daughter&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">The 3,700-year-old burial chamber of a pharaoh&#8217;s daughter is believed to have been found near the remains of a recently-discovered pyramid in Egypt.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry of antiquities said the chamber at the Dahshur royal necropolis, south of Cairo, contained a wooden box engraved with hieroglyphs.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the box were four canopic jars filled with the organs of the deceased, likely a daughter of King Emnikamaw.<\/p>\n<p>The ruler&#8217;s pyramid is about 600m (1,970ft) from the chamber.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, archaeologists investigating the remains of the structure found a relief with 10 lines of hieroglyphs bearing Emnikamaw&#8217;s name.<\/p>\n<p>They also uncovered the remnants of an anthropoid sarcophagus.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/CF09\/production\/_96010035_6ca7c6f1-3241-4b48-8f25-3bde27e27c0b.jpg\" alt=\"Photograph published by the Egyptian ministry of antiquities showing a wooden box found inside a burial chamber at the Dahshur royal necropolis, south of Cairo (10 April 2017)\" width=\"976\" height=\"549\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/><\/span><\/figure>\n<p>Dahshur is where King Sneferu of the 4th Dynasty built ancient Egypt&#8217;s first true smooth-sided pyramid, the 104m-high (341ft) Red Pyramid, about 4,600 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>He also constructed an earlier version, the 105m-high Bent Pyramid, whose slopes change angle from 54 degrees to 43 degrees about halfway up.<\/p>\n<p>Sneferu was succeeded by his son Khufu, renowned for the Great Pyramid at Giza, which &#8211; at 138m high &#8211; was a wonder of the ancient world.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 3,700-year-old burial chamber of a pharaoh&#8217;s daughter is believed to have been found near the remains of a recently-discovered pyramid in Egypt.
