{"id":314404,"date":"2017-04-27T14:30:30","date_gmt":"2017-04-27T14:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=314404"},"modified":"2017-04-27T14:30:30","modified_gmt":"2017-04-27T14:30:30","slug":"us-to-invest-38-million-in-ghanas-agric-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=314404","title":{"rendered":"US to invest $38 million in Ghana\u2019s agric sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Robert Jackson, has revealed that his country intends to invest considerable resources in the agriculture and health sectors in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-314409 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/us-ambasador-with-brong-ahafo-minister-4.jpg\" alt=\"us-ambasador-with-brong-ahafo-minister-4\" width=\"768\" height=\"519\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He made the declaration during a working visit to the Brong Ahafo Region on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The US Ambassador was hosted by the Regional Minister, Mr. Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-314411 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/us-ambasador-with-brong-ahafo-minister-1.jpg\" alt=\"us-ambasador-with-brong-ahafo-minister-1\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbout 38 million USD is being invested in the Agricultural sector. We are investing both in cash crops like cocoa and cashew, but we are also investing in maize and soya and improving seed varieties during testing,&#8221; the US Ambassador said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-314416 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/us-ambasador-with-brong-ahafo-minister-3.jpg\" alt=\"us-ambasador-with-brong-ahafo-minister-3\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He added that, the US Government is &#8220;working very closely with all of the companies in the cocoa sector, to ensure that the farmers get the best possible prices for their cocoa\u201d adding that \u201cwe are doing the same in the cashew sector.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Planting for Food and Jobs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This comes on the back of the launch of a flagship agric programme in Ghana dubbed: &#8220;<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/04\/19\/akufo-addo-launches-planting-for-food-and-jobs-programme-photos\/\"><strong>Planting for Food<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and Agriculture.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Planting for Food and Jobs will\u00a0be rolled out in all 216 districts across the country, and will involve the supply of farm resources such as high yielding and improved seedlings to participating farmers.<\/p>\n<p>The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government has said that, it intends to revolutionize agriculture in the country by introducing the programme which is expected to create more than 750,000 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>The programme, according to the government, would also motivate farmers to grow staple foods such as maize, millet, and beans.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Michael Tsatsu Axolu\/citifmonline\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The American Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Robert Jackson, has revealed that his country intends to invest considerable resources in the agriculture and health sectors in Ghana.
