The Customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has raked in an estimated 2.7 billion cedis for the first quarter of 2017, Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta has revealed.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”jQLB1GU3LWbMJtmynzAu6soxQq2Ov0NO”]This represents 19.23\u00a0percent collection of its total 2017 revenue target of about 14 billion cedis.<\/p>\n
By this, the Customs division is anticipating a revenue collection of at least 10 billion cedis for the rest of 2017.<\/p>\n
Mr. Ken Ofori Atta was speaking at the pull out ceremony for the outgoing Commissioner of the Customs Division of the GRA, Kuudamnuru John Vianney last Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver the years the Ministry of Finance through the customs division of the GRA has continuously improved revenue collection and reporting as well as reducing clearance time\u2026 I am confident the Customs will be able to meet the targets.\u201d<\/p>\n
Overall, the GRA is expected to collect 34.8 billion cedis for 2017; representing a 34 percent increase over 2016\u2019s target.<\/p>\n
The Minister also assured of the government support to improve the operational efficiencies of the GRA.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Ministry intends to support the GRA and generally to equip GRA with the human and logistical resources to execute its mandate under the law,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
An immediate former Deputy Commissioner in charge of Post Clearance Audit Department, Mr. Isaac Crentsil has since assumed office as the new Commissioner for the Customs Division of the GRA.<\/p>\n
He replaces Kuudamnuru John Vianney who has served for over three decades at the service.<\/p>\n
