{"id":30649,"date":"2014-07-09T11:18:51","date_gmt":"2014-07-09T11:18:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=30649"},"modified":"2014-07-09T12:04:15","modified_gmt":"2014-07-09T12:04:15","slug":"major-roads-to-be-closed-for-ecowas-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=30649","title":{"rendered":"Major roads to be closed for ECOWAS meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Major roads in Accra will be closed for the two-day meeting of\u00a0\u00a0Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) heads of state.<\/p>\n<p>The Director General of Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP David Ampah Banin\u00a0 revealed this in an interview on the<strong> Citi Breakfast Show.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Banin said the\u00a0main roads\u00a0from Movenpick Hotel to the Airport traffic light and the independence avenue will be closed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a dual-carriage lane, so only the Accra bound route will be closed to the general public. The other side will be opened but it will be used as &#8216;in and out&#8217; so motorists can go and come on that route,\u201d Mr. Banin explained.<\/p>\n<p>David Ampah Banin also\u00a0 said traffic on the Liberation Road, approaching the National Theatre traffic light to the Ministries area will be diverted onto Barnes Road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTraffic from the Liberation Road \u00a0would be diverted onto the Castle Road through the AU Circle, through Ridge Roundabout to various destinations,\u201dMr. Banin said<\/p>\n<p>He also noted that traffic on the Independence Avenue between the AU Circle and Novotel would be on a single carriageway in both directions.<\/p>\n<p>The Independence Avenue, from Association Traffic Intersection to Movenpick Hotel, will be converted into a one-way road and separated \u00a0to allow smooth passage of convoys.<\/p>\n<p>Traffic from the AU Circle would use the other portion of the single-carriage way in both directions.<\/p>\n<p>The move is to divert massive vehicular traffic during the ECOWAS meeting from Thursday to Friday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roads to be diverted<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Traffic on the Liberation Road approaching the National Theatre traffic light to Ministries Area will be diverted onto the Barnes Road to take a detour from the Accra Polytechnic to the Ministries Area.<\/li>\n<li>Traffic\u00a0 from the Liberia Road will be diverted onto the Castle Road through AU Circle, through Ridge Roundabout to various destinations.<\/li>\n<li>Traffic on the Independence Avenue between AU Circle and Novotel will be on a single carriageway in both directions.<\/li>\n<li>The Independence Avenue (from Association Traffic Intersection to Movenpick Hotel) will be converted into a one way, and segregated to allow smooth passage of VVIP convoys.\u00a0 At the same time, traffic from the AU Circle will also use the other portion of the single carriage way in both directions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifonline.com\/Ghana<br \/>\n<a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EfeAnsah\" data-show-count=\"false\">Follow @EfeAnsah<\/a><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\/\/ <![CDATA[\n!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=\/^http:\/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+':\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs');\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Major roads in Accra will be closed for the two-day meeting of\u00a0\u00a0Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) heads of state.
