{"id":305026,"date":"2017-03-27T06:20:52","date_gmt":"2017-03-27T06:20:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=305026"},"modified":"2017-03-27T06:20:52","modified_gmt":"2017-03-27T06:20:52","slug":"united-airlines-caught-up-in-leggings-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=305026","title":{"rendered":"United Airlines caught up in leggings row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">United Airlines has been heavily criticised on social media after two girls were reportedly barred from flying for wearing leggings.<\/p>\n<p>The incident happened on a flight from Denver to Minneapolis on Sunday morning, activist Shannon Watts said.<\/p>\n<p>United said the girls were travelling on a special pass, for employees and their guests, which has a dress code.<\/p>\n<p>It has since clarified that all regular, paying customers are welcome to wear leggings.<\/p>\n<p>The girls were &#8220;United pass travellers&#8221;, which are tickets for company employees or eligible dependents, it explained in a Twitter exchange on the issue.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;United pass travellers&#8221; are eligible for free or heavily discounted air travel.<\/p>\n<p>The dress code for pass-holders states they should not wear &#8220;form-fitting lycra\/spandex tops, pants and dresses&#8221;, among various other stipulations, including no exposed midriffs, no mini skirts and no flip-flops.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">Twitter storm<\/h2>\n<p>Activist Shannon Watts tweeted about what happened to five girls when they tried to board a flight at Denver airport.<\/p>\n<p>She said a United gate agent was &#8220;forcing&#8221; the girls, one of them aged 10, to change their clothes or wear dresses over the leggings.<\/p>\n<p>She said three of the girls were allowed to fly after putting dresses over the top of their clothing, but two were prevented from boarding.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"http:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/A570\/production\/_95325324_a7402585-5af3-491b-bad2-eeec94b640df.jpg\" alt=\"Tweet from Shannon Watts reads: 1) 3 girls inspected for wearing perfectly acceptable leggings. 2 not allowed to board.
