{"id":302624,"date":"2017-03-17T15:26:46","date_gmt":"2017-03-17T15:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=302624"},"modified":"2017-03-17T15:26:46","modified_gmt":"2017-03-17T15:26:46","slug":"ndc-will-bounce-back-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=302624","title":{"rendered":"NDC will bounce back \u2013 Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former President, John Mahama, has said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will \u201cbounce back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear what may have inspired the former President&#8217;s comment, and what message he seeks to carry across, especially when there is uncertainty as to whether or not he would be contesting the 2020 elections.<\/p>\n<p>But according to him, members of the party must help to strengthen the party&#8217;s base to ensure that it returns to power.<\/p>\n<p>In a social media update via his Twitter page, the former president said the cause of the party\u2019s loss was \u201cmultifaceted\u201d but called for calm among supporters.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe NDC will bounce back!! Cause of our loss is multifaceted. We need calm nerves &amp; hard work to strengthen the base of party.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/JMLegacy?src=hash\" data-query-source=\"hashtag_click\">#JMLegacy<\/a>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-302625 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Mahama-bounce-back.png\" alt=\"mahama-bounce-back\" width=\"589\" height=\"233\" \/><\/p>\n<p>John Mahama lost in his bid to remain president for another 4-year term. He was defeated by the New Patriotic Party\u2019s Nana Akufo-Addo who had unsuccessfully contested to be president on two previous occasions.<\/p>\n<p>Nana Akufo-Addo polled 5,716,026 votes, representing 53.85 percent of valid votes cast, against John Dramani Mahama\u2019s 4,731,277 votes.<\/p>\n<p>Many described the victory as historic, since no incumbent president in Ghana\u2019s recent history had lost by such margin. The National Democratic Congress (NDC), subsequently formed\u00a0a 13-member committee to investigate the cause of the party\u2019s defeat in the December 7 polls.<\/p>\n<p>The committee, formed by the NDC\u2019s National Executive Committee (NEC), and approved by its Council of Elders, is being chaired by a Former Minister of Finance and Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Kwesi Botchwey.<\/p>\n<p>The Committee is currently meeting various stakeholders across the country in carrying out it&#8217;s mandate, although some of the meetings have been engrossed in confusion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Angry NDC members hold executives \u2018hostage\u2019 over election defeat\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some foot soldiers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region, on Thursday <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/16\/angry-ndc-members-hold-executives-hostage-over-election-defeat\/\">prevented their regional party executives<\/a><\/strong><\/span> from engaging in a scheduled meeting at the Koforidua Eredec Hotel.<\/p>\n<p>The irate foot soldiers blocked the entrance of the hotel with logs, stones and motorcycles, which caused some regional party executives to flee the scene.<\/p>\n<p>Below are the members of the fact-finding committee:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Kwesi Botchwey<\/li>\n<li>Edward Doe Adjaho (Former Speaker of Parliament)<\/li>\n<li>Alhaji Hudu Yahaya<\/li>\n<li>Naval Capt.
