{"id":302131,"date":"2017-03-16T14:00:32","date_gmt":"2017-03-16T14:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=302131"},"modified":"2017-03-16T14:00:32","modified_gmt":"2017-03-16T14:00:32","slug":"mp-calls-for-probe-into-mps-shareholding-structure-with-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=302131","title":{"rendered":"MP calls for probe into MPS&#8217; shareholding structure with Gov&#8217;t"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Member of Parliament for Okaikoi Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, believes a forensic investigation into the shareholding structure of the Meridian Port Services Limited (MPS) is needed.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the MP noted that, Ghana has a stake in the MPS structure, but said he was privy to information indicating that \u201c the shares of the\u00a0government of Ghana have been diluted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;h7CcAuxipKgIZQI3q7Y8kHZtkgsZZLLI&#8221;]He further expressed fears that government could lose a lot of revenue if indeed the state\u2019s shares in the venture have been diluted.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Boamah thus said he wants government &#8220;to take the necessary steps to call for a thorough forensic investigation into the circumstances leading to the dilution of the shares of Ghana in MPS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I believe it is a prosperous venture, and the shareholding government, looking at the revenue that comes to the port will help the government achieve its objective under the Akufo-Addo administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The MPS currently carries out key services in the country\u2019s ports and harbour space including the Tema Port expansion project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MPS dealings with Ghana<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2004, the government of Ghana signed a contract with the Meridian Port Services Limited to run the Tema Port on a 20-year concession agreement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The MPS is a joint venture between the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and Meridian Port Holdings Limited, which is in turn, a joint venture with Bollor\u00e9\u00a0Group and APM Terminals \u2013 a subsidiary of Maersk &#8211; as the two main shareholders.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-42650 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/tema-port-harbour1.jpg\" alt=\"tema-port-harbour1\" width=\"650\" height=\"416\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/tema-port-harbour1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/tema-port-harbour1-300x192.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The joint venture share comprises Bollor\u00e9 35%; APM Terminals 35%; and Ghana Ports &amp; Harbours Authority 30%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As part of the concession agreement, MPS was to invest in the Tema Port, expand facilities and make it a productive national asset.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Member of Parliament for Okaikoi Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, believes a forensic investigation into the shareholding structure of the Meridian Port Services Limited (MPS) is needed.
