{"id":302118,"date":"2017-03-16T09:34:32","date_gmt":"2017-03-16T09:34:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=302118"},"modified":"2017-03-16T09:34:32","modified_gmt":"2017-03-16T09:34:32","slug":"justification-for-110-ministers-senseless-asiedu-nketia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=302118","title":{"rendered":"Justification for 110 ministers &#8216;senseless&#8217; &#8211; Asiedu Nketia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has described as\u00a0senseless\u00a0the justification of President Akufo-Addo&#8217;s 110 ministerial appointments.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;The argument that the economy is so destroyed that they need a bigger team to do work also doesn\u2019t make sense,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n<p>President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/15\/akufo-addo-names-50-deputies-4-ministers-of-state\/\">nominated 50 deputies and 4<\/a><\/strong><\/span> others to serve as Ministers of State at the presidency and ministries, bringing his total number of ministers to 110.<\/p>\n<p>The appointments have been described as the highest in\u00a0the country&#8217;s history.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement was followed by widespread criticism from the public,\u00a0though government sought\u00a0to justify the President\u2019s decision, explaining that the &#8220;weak nature of the economy, required a competent army&#8221;\u00a0of people to restore it.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_295967\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-295967\" style=\"width: 609px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-295967\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/hamid-2.jpg\" alt=\"Mustapha Hamid\" width=\"609\" height=\"417\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-295967\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mustapha Hamid<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Minister of Information, Mustapha Hamid, <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2017\/03\/15\/economy-is-weak-it-needs-strong-army-mustapha-hamid\/\">at a press conference<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, said the President was guided by the competencies and experiences of the people he appointed and the legal requirements in making such decisions.<\/p>\n<p>But speaking to Accra-based television station, TV3 on Wednesday evening, the NDC General Secretary rubbished\u00a0government&#8217;s justification of the large size of the executive and described it as insulting to Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I heard the list of ministers and I heard they were holding a press conference, I thought they would have some good reasons to tell Ghanaians. But they have just insulted us further by saying that we did not promise a lean government,\u201d Asiedu Nketia added.<\/p>\n<p>He further argued that Ghanaians deserved better explanations bordering on value for money and national interests.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They must come out to tell us what it is in terms of value for money that we would gain as a nation out of those appointments. But just to come and say that we didn\u2019t promise a lean government so we are at liberty to do whatever we wish, I think it is rather rubbing pepper in the wound.
